Etsy Fees for Vintage Sellers in the UK and EU
Four fees stack on one vintage sale, and two of them are charged on shipping too.

- Vintage on Etsy means at least 20 years old, and Etsy may ask for proof of age through labels, receipts or provenance.
- The listing fee is $0.20 per 4-month listing with auto-renew, so factor it into low-price items.
- Transaction fee is 6.5% on item price plus shipping and gift wrap.
- Payment processing varies by country: UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20, EU sellers (DE/FR/ES/IT/NL) pay 4% + €0.30, both charged on the total including shipping and tax.
- Offsite Ads are 15% with opt-out under $10k annual sales, mandatory 12% at $10k+.
If you sell vintage on Etsy, the fees add up from several layers: a listing fee, a transaction percentage, payment processing that depends on your bank country, and optionally Offsite Ads. This page breaks down each fee with its base, then walks through a worked example in euros showing what actually reaches your pocket.
Can you sell it as vintage? Etsy's 20-year rule
The resale profit guide covers the full method for pricing and profitability across marketplaces.
Etsy's vintage policy, last updated 16 November 2018, defines vintage items as those at least 20 years old. This is the hard rule — no exceptions for "vintage-style" or "retro" items.
When you list an item as vintage, Etsy may request proof of age. The policy lists what sellers commonly provide:
- A photo of the original label, care tag or brand mark
- A receipt or proof of purchase from the era
- Documentation of provenance (where and when you acquired it)
- Details about the designer, collection or manufacturing period
What Etsy does not accept as proof: "handed down from a relative", "another vintage seller is selling the same item", or "purchased at an estate sale or yard sale" without additional documentation.
Deadstock (new old stock) requires explaining how you authenticated it.

If you cannot document the age, list the item as used rather than vintage. Etsy may remove listings that don't meet the 20-year rule.
Listing fee: $0.20 per listing
Etsy's fees page (updated 13 February 2026) charges $0.20 per listing that runs for 4 months. When the listing expires, Etsy automatically renews it and charges $0.20 again — this is the auto-renew feature.
For multi-quantity listings, each sale triggers a $0.20 charge for the next batch.
Decision rule: if you list items under $1, the listing fee takes a large chunk. Factor $0.20 into your pricing on low-margin items.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
The transaction fee is 6.5% of the displayed item price, plus shipping and gift wrap. This is charged on the total the buyer pays before payment processing.
Payment processing: UK and EU rates
Payment processing fees depend on where your bank is located, not where the buyer is. The fees page lists these rates:
| Bank location | Processing fee | Fixed amount |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 3% | $0.25 |
| United Kingdom | 4% | £0.20 |
| Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands | 4% | €0.30 |
| Canada | 3% | C$0.25 (domestic), 4% (international) |
| Australia | 3% | A$0.25 (domestic) |
The fee is charged on the total sale amount including shipping and any applicable tax.
For Poland: Etsy's payment processing help article does not list a separate rate for Poland. Do not assume the UK or eurozone rate applies to you — check the processing fee shown in your Etsy Payments account settings before you set prices.
Offsite Ads: 15% or 12%
Etsy charges Offsite Ads fees on orders attributed to ads shown on Google, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms:
- 15% — if your total sales in the past 12 months are below $10,000. You can opt out anytime while under this threshold.
- 12% — mandatory once your sales reach or exceed $10,000 in any rolling 12-month period.
The fee is calculated on the item price only, excluding shipping and tax.
Decision rule: if you are new to Etsy and expect under $10k in annual sales, factor the 15% into your pricing and monitor your opt-out option. Once you hit $10k, the rate drops to 12% but you can no longer opt out.
Other fees to know
- Currency conversion: 2.5% if your listing currency differs from your payment account currency.
- Regulatory Operating fee: a percentage that Etsy charges in certain countries — the fee page does not state the amount.
- Set-up fee: Etsy may charge a one-time set-up fee when you open a shop, but the amount is not published.
- Off-platform sales: Etsy's terms explicitly prohibit moving transactions off the platform. Don't direct buyers to pay outside Etsy.
A worked vintage sale in euros
Say you find a vintage leather jacket at a market for €25, list it on Etsy for €40 with €8 shipping to a German buyer, so the buyer pays €48 in total. No Offsite Ads were triggered.
- Your cost€25
- Listing fee (≈$0.20)€0.18
- Transaction 6.5% × €48€3.12
- Processing 4% × €48 + €0.30€2.22
- Postage to Germany (assumed €8)€8
- Profit€9.48
In this example, after Etsy's fees and the postage you keep €9.48 profit on a €25 purchase — roughly a 38% return before your time and packaging materials. Note that Etsy charges its percentages on the shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays too, so cheap items with high shipping lose more to fees than the item price suggests.
