Vinted Scams That Target Sellers (and How to Shut Them Down)
The messages, links and claims that cost sellers money, what Vinted's help pages say about each, and the evidence habits that protect you.

- Phishing on Vinted arrives as in-app messages, texts, emails and QR codes; official emails come from the country's vinted domain, and Vinted asks you to forward suspicious ones to [email protected].
- A payment made without the "Buy now" button isn't covered by Buyer Protection, and promoting a sale outside Vinted's payment system is a listed reason for a temporary account block.
- After an accepted SNAD claim, the buyer returns the item within 5 business days and the seller has 2 days to inspect it; unusual claims — empty parcel or swapped item — are reviewed by Vinted on a case-by-case basis.
- Photos of the item and the packed parcel, inside and outside, are Vinted's own recommended evidence before shipping.
- If you clicked a link or shared data, Vinted's guidance is to freeze cards, change passwords, add multi-factor authentication, contact your bank and, if money was taken, the police.
Most scams aimed at Vinted sellers don't come through the app's own systems — they come through a message, an email or a link designed to look like they did. This guide is one part of the broader Vinted reseller guide: what Vinted's own help pages say about phishing, off-app payment requests and claim disputes.
How scams reach sellers on Vinted
Vinted's own phishing guide names four channels: "messages on Vinted, text messages to your phone, emails, and QR code attachments," plus fake websites built to mimic Vinted's login page. None of these need a security flaw in the app itself — they rely on you trusting a message that looks official.
| What it usually means | Official Vinted source | |
|---|---|---|
| Email asking you to "confirm your sale" by clicking a link | Phishing — Vinted never confirms sales this way | help/628, help/551 |
| Chat message or email with a link or QR code | Phishing attempt to harvest login or card data | help/628 |
| Buyer asks to move to phone, email or bank transfer | Off-app payment; unprotected and against Vinted's own advice | help/628, help/82, help/92 |
| Offer far above the item's usual price | Common lead-in to an off-app payment request | not a specific Vinted page — pattern only |
| Buyer claims the parcel arrived empty | Reviewed by Vinted support case by case | contact support at once — see below |
| Buyer claims a different item arrived | Treated as a SNAD dispute; process is case by case | help/5/272, general SNAD process |
Phishing: fake emails, texts, links and QR codes
Vinted's Irish help page is explicit: phishing shows up as "messages on Vinted, text messages to your phone, emails, and QR code attachments," and scammers also build fake websites that copy Vinted's design to capture your login. The Polish version of the same page adds a concrete detail: official Vinted emails come from the "@vinted.pl" domain, and its core advice is blunt — "Unikaj kontaktowania się z innymi użytkownikami i dokonywania płatności poza Vinted" (avoid contacting other users and making payments outside Vinted).

Say you get an email that looks like Vinted, asking you to click a link to "confirm" a sale you just made. That's the exact pattern Vinted's own help page warns about — legitimate payment confirmations happen inside the app, never through an email link, and Vinted's guidance says plainly to avoid opening suspicious links and to skip sharing your data in messages unless you're already talking to Vinted's own support team about an issue.
Buyers who want to talk or pay outside Vinted
A buyer who pushes to text you directly, call, or send a bank transfer instead of using "Buy now" isn't just breaking Vinted's house rules — they're removing your only protection. Vinted's UK help page on Buyer Protection states it clearly: "If you make a payment outside of Vinted's system (i.e. without using the 'Buy now' button), you won't be covered by Buyer Protection." The same logic applies in reverse when you're the seller taking payment off-platform: there's no dispute process to fall back on if the money never arrives.
It also puts your account at risk. Vinted's page on account blocks lists "Promoting selling outside the Vinted payment system" as a reason for a temporary ban, and repeated commercial activity conducted the same way can escalate further. For what an account restriction actually looks like and how long it lasts, see account restrictions on Vinted.
Claim scams: empty parcel, swapped or damaged item
For a standard SNAD (significantly not as described) claim, the established process is that the buyer ships the item back within 5 business days and the seller has 2 days to inspect what comes back — the full mechanics are in Vinted disputes and returns and what counts as SNAD, so this guide won't repeat them.
Where it gets harder is the claim itself: a buyer who says the parcel arrived empty, or that a different item came back after a return. Vinted's support team reviews these case by case, using whatever evidence both sides can produce. If you receive such a claim, film yourself opening the parcel from all angles, keep the courier weight receipt, and contact Vinted support immediately with your photos and video — the earlier you escalate, the more likely the evidence is to be useful.
Evidence that protects you
This is where a documented habit does more than any single feature. Vinted's own advice, from its packaging help page, is to "take photos of the item and the packed parcel, including the inside and outside of the packaging" before you ship — precisely because, as the same page notes, "if the buyer reports any issues during transit, these photos may help resolve the issue faster." Add close-up shots of any serial number, care label or maker's mark on the item itself, and weigh the parcel so the receipt matches the label. Keep every message inside Vinted's own chat rather than moving to email or text, since that history becomes part of your evidence if a claim does come in.
- Photograph the item from multiple angles, including any serial number or care label, before you pack it
- Photograph the packed parcel, inside and outside, right before sealing it
- Keep the courier's weight receipt next to a screenshot of the shipping label
- Never move the conversation with a buyer out of Vinted's own chat
If you clicked a link or shared your data
Vinted's phishing help page gives a specific sequence if you think you've been compromised: "Freeze your bank accounts, bank cards, or credit cards," "Update the passwords of any potentially compromised accounts," and "Add multi-factor authentication to your accounts for extra security." Beyond that, it recommends contacting your bank about reversing any fraudulent payment and, if money was actually taken, filing a report with your local police.
- 1Suspicious message or email arrivesDon't click the link or scan the QR code
- 2Open the Vinted app directlyCheck the order or conversation there instead
- 3Report itReport the member in-app or forward the email to [email protected]
- 4If you already clicked or shared dataFreeze cards, change passwords, enable multi-factor authentication
- 5Still concernedContact your bank; file a police report if money was taken

How to report a scam to Vinted
Report the suspicious member directly from their profile or the conversation inside the app, and forward any phishing email to [email protected]. Vinted's guidance asks for screenshots of the message or email, the sender's username or address, and any payment details involved, since that's what its team uses to investigate. If the same courier-link trick or a fake-tracking-page scam is turning up on OLX or Allegro Lokalnie instead, the seller-side patterns are covered in OLX and Allegro Lokalnie scams for sellers.
