Landed Cost for Resellers, Explained
The price on the listing is only the start of what a flip costs you.

- Landed cost = item price + buyer-side marketplace fees + delivery + any verification fee + import VAT/duty where it applies.
- On Vinted PL the buyer fee is usually 5% + 2,90 zł; Item Verification costs 45 zł and Electronics Verification 20 zł, both paid by the buyer.
- Landed cost is the buy side only; cost of goods sold (COGS) adds what makes the item sellable, such as cleaning or repairs.
- UK imports you buy yourself: goods worth £135 or less usually have VAT charged by the seller at checkout; above £135 you pay VAT to the carrier and duty may apply.
- Use landed cost, not the listing price, as the input to your maximum buy price calculation.
Landed cost is what an item actually cost you to acquire — not the price in the listing, but that price plus every buy-side fee, delivery charge and import tax that got it into your hands. Resellers who quote the listing price as their cost usually find their real margin is thinner than the resale profit guide would suggest. Getting landed cost reselling math right is the difference between guessing at a margin and knowing it. This page covers what belongs in the number, how to use it to cap what you pay, how imports change it, and how it differs from COGS.
What goes into landed cost when you buy second-hand
Landed cost starts with the item price and adds every charge the buyer pays before the item reaches you:
- Item price — the number in the listing or the price you agreed.
- Marketplace buyer fee. On Vinted Poland this is usually 5% of the item price plus 2,90 zł, per the Vinted PL price list checked 13 September 2026. It is charged in addition to the price, not deducted from it.
- Optional verification. Vinted's Item Verification costs 45 zł and Electronics Verification 20 zł, both paid by the buyer, per the same price list.
- Delivery. On Allegro Lokalnie, InPost Paczkomaty delivery costs 10,95 zł and One Box 10,49 zł (Allegro Lokalnie "Sprzedaj teraz", checked 13 September 2026). Vinted and OLX delivery prices vary by size, weight and route, so treat any single figure as an example only.
- OLX Pakiet Ochronny. On OLX the buyer protection fee is added to the item price and shown as a separate line at checkout; OLX does not publish a fixed table for the amount, so you only see it on the specific listing.
- Pickup costs, if you count them: fuel or a bus fare for a local collection.
- Item price80 zł
- Vinted buyer fee (5% + 2,90 zł)6.9 zł
- Delivery (example figure)15 zł

Say you buy a jacket listed at 80 zł on Vinted. The buyer fee adds 6,90 zł (5% of 80 zł is 4 zł, plus the fixed 2,90 zł). With an example delivery cost of 15 zł, the landed cost before any verification is 101,90 zł — almost 22 zł above the listing price.
Using landed cost to set a maximum buy price
Landed cost only earns its keep when it feeds a decision. Before you message a seller, work backwards from a cautious expected sale price: subtract fees, shipping and your minimum acceptable profit or ROI, and what's left is the most you can afford to pay, landed. Say your landed-cost ceiling is 100 zł: once you add the Vinted buyer fee, that leaves room for a bid of about 92 zł to the seller.
The max buy price calculator does this arithmetic for you from an expected sale price, delivery, prep costs and your profit or ROI floor. Pair it with your profit per hour of reselling if a jacket's landed cost is low but it takes an evening of cleaning and photos to list.
Imports: VAT and duty on goods from abroad
Buying from another country adds a line a domestic Vinted or OLX purchase doesn't have. For the UK, GOV.UK's page on goods sent from abroad (checked 14 September 2026) covers something you buy yourself and have sent to you: goods worth £135 or less usually already include VAT, charged by the seller at checkout. Above £135, you pay VAT to the courier before delivery, and customs duty can also apply. A gift worth £39 or less has no import VAT.
For Poland and the rest of the EU, private-import VAT and customs rules differ by origin country and value — check the official customs rules for your country before buying from outside the EU. Treat an unsourced number the same way you'd treat an unverified marketplace fee: don't build your maximum buy price around it.
Landed cost vs COGS
Landed cost and cost of goods sold (COGS) answer different questions, and mixing them up understates one or the other. Landed cost is only the buy side — everything above. COGS starts from landed cost and adds what makes the item sellable: cleaning supplies, a small repair, packaging bought for that listing. A stained coat bought cheap that needs professional cleaning has a low landed cost and a high COGS; a verified watch that needs nothing further is the reverse. Some costs sit outside both numbers entirely — packaging you keep on hand, a returned item, a marketplace subscription — and those are covered in hidden costs of reselling.
Before you commit to a purchase
- Add the marketplace buyer fee to the listing price before comparing it with other options.
- Ask about delivery cost if it isn't shown, especially on OLX or a private Vinted sale outside platform delivery.
- Only add Item or Electronics Verification if you're actually paying for it — 20–45 zł on Vinted.
- Feed the total landed cost, not the listing price, into your maximum buy price.
Imported items bring their own tax questions; general guidance for UK-based resellers is in reseller tax in the UK, and this is not tax advice.
