How Much Do Resellers Make Per Hour?
There is no honest average. There is a simple way to measure your own rate and push it up.

- There is no honest average — measure your own time per flip to get a real number.
- Profit per hour = net profit ÷ total hours spent on that flip.
- Batching photos, packing and drop-offs cuts the biggest time sinks.
- When your hourly rate drops below your alternative earnings, shift to higher-value items or automate steps.
There's no published number for how much resellers make per hour. Anyone who tells you "for example, the average reseller earns 150 zł/hour" is inventing a statistic — the platforms simply don't publish earnings data. What you can do is measure your own time honestly and turn any flip into an hourly rate. This page shows you the formula, a simple log to track every step, and two worked examples in zł that show where the time actually goes.
This page is part of the resale profit guide, our pillar on making money from reselling.
Why there's no honest average
Marketplaces treat seller earnings as private data. Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie do not publish how much their sellers earn, how many items they list, or how fast items sell. Any blog post or YouTube video claiming "resellers earn X per hour" is making up a number. The only honest approach is to track your own flips and calculate the rate yourself.
Your hourly rate will vary wildly between low-value and high-value flips. A cheap item might take the same total hours but earn you far less per hour. That's why measuring each flip separately matters. The hidden costs of reselling page covers other expenses to factor in, but here we focus on your time cost specifically.
The formula: profit per hour of a flip
Before you can calculate your hourly rate, you need the net profit — also called landed cost when you factor in everything you paid to get the item ready. The net profit is:
net profit = sale price − item cost − marketplace fees − shipping − extra costs (cleaning, repairs, supplies)
Once you have the net profit, divide it by the total hours you spent on that specific flip. Total hours includes every minute spent searching, traveling, cleaning, photographing, writing the listing, answering messages, packing and dropping off the parcel.
profit per hour = net profit ÷ total hours
This gives you a precise number for each flip. The pattern tells you where your time is worth spending.
The resale profit calculator gives you the net profit number to put on top of the formula.
Timing every step of a flip
Write down each task and estimate how many minutes it took. For a reliable number, use a simple log like this:
| Step | Description | Minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Searching | Scrolling listings, comparing prices | |
| Travel / Pickup | Going to get the item | |
| Cleaning / Testing | Washing, ironing, checking if electronics work | |
| Photos | Taking and selecting photos | |
| Listing | Writing title, description, setting price | |
| Messages / Offers | Answering buyer questions, negotiating | |
| Packing | Wrapping, taping, labeling | |
| Drop-off | Bringing the parcel to a locker or courier |
Do this for 5–10 flips and you'll see which steps take the most time. Most resellers are surprised to find that searching and messaging together often equal or exceed the time spent on photos and packing.
Two worked examples in zł
The numbers below are illustrative assumptions — measure your own time to get your real rate.
Example 1: say you flip clothing for 60 zł
For example, say you buy a jacket for 25 zł, spend 6 zł on washing it, and sell it for 60 zł. The buyer pays shipping. Vinted's buyer protection fee is roughly 5% + 2.90 zł, so illustrative total fees are about 5.90 zł. Your net profit:
60 − 25 − 5.90 − 6 = illustrative net profit of 23.10 zł
Total time: 75 minutes (illustrative: 15 searching, 0 pickup, 10 cleaning, 10 photos, 5 listing, 10 messages, 10 packing, 15 drop-off). That's illustrative 1.25 hours.
23.10 ÷ 1.25 = illustrative 18.48 zł/hour
Example 2: say you flip electronics for 900 zł
For example, say you buy a used phone for 650 zł, spend 30 zł on testing and a charger, and sell it for 900 zł. OLX with Pakiet Ochronny has no seller fee for private sellers, but let's assume a 1% payment processing fee of 9 zł and shipping of 15 zł. Your net profit:
900 − 650 − 9 − 30 − 15 = illustrative net profit of 196 zł
Total time: 195 minutes (illustrative: 40 searching, 45 pickup, 30 testing, 15 photos, 10 listing, 25 messages, 15 packing, 15 drop-off). That's illustrative 3.25 hours.
196 ÷ 3.25 = illustrative 60.31 zł/hour
The phone flip earns more than three times the hourly rate of the clothing flip, even though it takes longer. The math is why experienced resellers shift toward higher-value items once they understand their time costs.
Deadlines and rules that fix part of your time
Some tasks have hard deadlines you cannot push. These are not optional — violating them cancels the sale or triggers a penalty.
On Vinted, you have 5 business days to ship an order. After that, the order is cancelled automatically. This deadline is fixed — you cannot "save time" by waiting longer. The rule forces you to batch your shipping runs, which is actually a time-saver if you plan ahead.
On OLX with Pakiet Ochronny (the protection package most buyers choose), the seller must confirm the sale within 72 hours and ship within 3 working days. These are separate deadlines: confirm first, then ship. Missing either cancels the transaction and hurts your seller rating.
Vinted also prohibits mass messaging to 5 or more users at once. This means you cannot speed up outreach by copying the same message to dozens of buyers. Each message must be individual, which is why automated pricing tools save more time than automated messaging.
How to raise your profit per hour

Once you know your hourly rate per flip type, you can act on the numbers.
Batch repetitive tasks. Photograph 10 items in one session instead of one at a time. Pack 5 orders before heading to the parcel locker. Drive to a thrift store and pick up 3 items on the same trip instead of separate runs. Every batch reduces the per-item time.
Raise the average item value. Moving toward higher-priced items can significantly increase your hourly rate even if the sourcing takes the same effort. Electronics, branded accessories and quality furniture typically carry higher margins.
Cut the slow steps. If messaging buyers takes 30% of your total time, improve your listing photos and descriptions so buyers ask fewer questions. If pricing research eats hours, use tools that show market values quickly.
The inventory turnover calculator shows whether you're holding items too long — slow inventory drags down your effective hourly rate. If you're reselling alongside a full-time job, batching becomes even more critical because you have limited windows to work.
When the hourly rate says stop
Calculate your hourly rate honestly for a month of flips. Compare it to what you could earn in a part-time job with fixed hours and no risk. Include the fact that your profit has no tax withheld — you may owe something at year-end if you sell regularly.
If your hourly rate sits consistently below a level you set as acceptable, the math says either shift to higher-margin items or reduce the time per flip through batching. If you're earning significantly more, you're doing better than many part-time jobs — but still track the number monthly, because margins shift as marketplaces change fees and competition.
The good profit margin page has specific benchmarks for what margins you should target on each flip.
