How the Vinted Algorithm Ranks Listings

Separating Vinted's published ranking factors from blog myths.

Vinted listing cards sorted into item, engagement, buyer history and Bump factor groups
Key takeaways
  • Vinted publishes its ranking signals but not their weights: upload age, price, brand, views, clicks, favourites, the buyer's history and Bumps, plus 15 parameters in help article 409.
  • Article 409 gives an order of importance that it says can vary: filters first, then promoted content such as new listings and Bumps, then item attractiveness, then personalisation.
  • A listing with no views is usually outside the filtered search a buyer ran, so check category, brand, size, condition and description before touching price or buying a Bump.
  • Vinted's Terms allow it to demote, hide or restrict content, but no official page gives a "shadowban" duration; those numbers come from blogs.
  • No source supports a best posting hour. Test two upload slots with comparable new items, equal batch sizes and no Bumps, then swap slots before you call a winner.

The Vinted algorithm ranks listings on signals Vinted names itself: upload age, price and brand, views, clicks and favourites, the buyer's own history, and paid Bumps. Its help centre adds an order of importance: the buyer's filters first, then promoted content such as new listings and Bumps, then how attractive the item is, then personalisation. No weights are published, so a precise formula, a best posting hour or a shadowban length is a guess.

Below: Vinted's own wording, a no-views checklist, the myths, and a posting-time test for your own items. This page is part of the Vinted reseller guide.

What Vinted discloses about the Vinted algorithm

Two official documents, read on 13 Sept 2026, describe ranking: section 8 of the UK "Our platform" page, and help article 409, "Recommended content on Vinted", which lists 15 parameters.

The four factor groups on Vinted's Our platform page
  1. 1Item attributesHow long ago it was uploaded, the price and the brand
  2. 2EngagementImpressions (views), clicks and how often it is added to favourites
  3. 3Buyer's historyPrevious interactions with similar sizes, categories or price ranges
  4. 4BumpsA paid Bump temporarily affects ranking in feeds and search
Wording from Vinted UK's Our platform page, section 8, read 13 Sept 2026. That page gives no order or weights; article 409's order is below.

Article 409's "key recommendation factors", in its order (it adds that "these priorities can vary"):

  1. Filters: the buyer's own, such as search filters or "customised sizes", and Vinted's, such as items available in the buyer's country.
  2. Promoted content: new listings and paid promotions, with "rules that limit how often they appear".
  3. Item attractiveness: recency, interactions, price and condition.
  4. Personalisation from past interactions.

Search filters results first (category, brand, price range), then ranks them "based on relevance to the query and to you". The homepage feed uses "recommenders and re-rankers" instead.

Decision rule: a listing excluded at step 1 never reaches steps 2–4, so fix its fields before you think about Bumps or timing.

Item factors: recency, price, brand

Article 409 says time since upload "helps to evaluate the chances of an item being sold", and new listings are promoted. Publish when photos, price and fields are final, not with a plan to fix them next week.

The article also names signals you set on the listing form:

Signal in article 409 What Vinted says it does Your lever
Item ontology "category, brand, size, colour, listing photos, and other attributes" Fill every field accurately
Item condition Matches "buyers' preferences" Pick the true condition
Item descriptions Judge "the relevance of an item to the search query" Use the words buyers search for
Preferred language Shows items in the member's language Write in your buyers' language
Item and buyer country Keeps items that can "actually be purchased" Don't expect reach where your item can't ship
Listing frequency Batch uploads shown "in a proportionate way" Don't expect a big batch to fill the top of search

Price is used "to recommend better deals to members", but how much cheaper helps isn't stated. Set it for margin and speed, as in how to price on Vinted. Search-friendly wording without brand spam is in writing listing titles and descriptions.

Engagement: views, clicks, favourites

Section 8 counts "the number of impressions (views), clicks, or how often an item is added to favourites". Article 409 says interactions show "how likely it is to be sold" and can come from visitors who aren't logged in. A listing that gets shown collects interactions, which help it get shown again.

Decision rule: never start that loop artificially. The Terms bar external software used "for the purpose of promoting Items, adding Items to favourite" unless Vinted authorises it; the clauses are quoted in are Vinted bots allowed.

Personalisation: the buyer's history

Section 8 says Vinted considers "a buyer's previous interactions with similar items (such as items of a certain size, category, or price range)". Article 409 adds the buyer's following list, and a push for new members: their listings are shown to members "who have seen or purchased similar items in the past".

  • Two buyers typing the same words see different orders, so "page 5" on your phone says little about anyone else's results.
  • For a view without your own history, repeat the buyer's search and filters in a private browser window. Treat it as a rough check: article 409 says some parameters apply to visitors too.

Bumps and temporary ranking

A Bump "temporarily affects an item's ranking in feeds and search results" (Our platform §8). Help page 340 says it lasts 3 or 7 days or until the item sells, one per item at a time, shown "in your registered country". The price, which the Polish price list ties to domestic or international reach, appears only at payment.

Bumps are promoted content, which article 409 ranks after filters. A Bump can't put a listing into a search whose filters exclude it, so a wrong size or category wastes it. The break-even maths is in is a Vinted Bump worth it.

No views on Vinted: what to check first

Filters come first, so check in this order:

  • Category is the one a buyer would browse, not a near neighbour
  • Brand field holds the real brand, with no unrelated brands in title, description or hashtags (Catalogue Rules)
  • Size, colour and condition are filled in and correct
  • Description uses buyers' search words, in their language
  • Photos are your own, not stock or internet images (Catalogue Rules)
  • The account doesn't look commercial: many new or tagged items, identical items in several sizes, stock photos (help 1120)
  • Your last batch wasn't uploaded in one burst ("listing frequency")

If views come but favourites, offers or sales don't, the problem is further down the funnel: why your Vinted items aren't selling takes it from there.

Shadowbans: what Vinted says about demoting or hiding content

The Vinted pages we read don't use the word "shadowban". The UK Terms (version from 30 April 2026) allow steps from a warning up to a temporary or permanent block, including the right to "demote, hide or remove your Content" or restrict visibility, sometimes using "automated software or algorithms". Help article 1120 says commercial-looking listings on a personal account may be hidden or removed, and article 409 says measures against illegal content "may impact the visibility of members' legitimate listings".

So reduced visibility is documented; its length is not. "7–14 day shadowban" figures come from third-party blogs. The Catalogue Rules give one example duration, a suspension "e.g. for a period of 7 days" for repeated breaches, which is an account sanction, not a visibility change. In Poland, help article 1120 allows one appeal per moderation decision within 6 months.

Decision rule: if one listing is quiet, run the checklist above. If views drop across your whole wardrobe at once, look for a warning from Vinted and check your account against the commercial signals. Don't delete and re-list in bulk to escape it; that is banned too.

Vinted's updated Terms take effect on 5 October 2026 in Germany and France and on 8 October 2026 in the UK, US and Poland. Press coverage says the enforcement section is shortened, so re-read it after those dates.

Myths: what isn't confirmed

Claim you'll see Status
"Sunday 8–10 PM gets +25% views" and similar exact figures No traceable source
Editing a listing pushes it back up Not documented
Deleting and re-uploading resets you to the top Upload age is a signal, but repeated or bulk delete-and-relist is banned
Buyers see newest items first by default Not documented; the catalogue page code has a newest-first sort, but no help article names the default
Pro sellers rank lower or higher Seller type is a parameter in article 409; direction not stated

Best time to post on Vinted: how to test it yourself

No source supports a best hour, so the honest answer is a two-week self-test on your own account: two upload slots, comparable items, equal batches, favourites per view logged without Bumps or edits. The full protocol — schedule, worksheet and the rules for reading the results without fooling yourself — lives in the best time to list on Vinted: a two-week measurement kit. Log slots and favourite counts alongside listed_date and days_to_sell in the reseller inventory and profit tracker.

Frequently asked questions

Does posting time matter on Vinted?
Indirectly. Vinted names time since upload as a ranking parameter and promotes new listings, so a listing has its best chance while it is new. No Vinted page we read names a best hour, and figures such as a Sunday-evening uplift have no traceable source. If you sell abroad, remember Vinted matches items by country and language: the evening that counts is your buyers'.
Do favourites boost ranking on Vinted?
Yes, as one signal among several. Help article 409 groups interactions with recency, price and condition as "item attractiveness", which it places after filters and promoted content, and no weight is published. Favourites generated by software are a different matter: the Terms bar external tools used for adding items to favourites unless Vinted allows it.
Does Vinted shadowban listings?
Vinted doesn't use the word, but its Terms let it demote, hide or remove content and restrict visibility, and commercial-looking listings on personal accounts may be hidden. Durations such as "7–14 days" come from third-party blogs only. Polish users can appeal a moderation decision within 6 months, once per decision.
Does editing a listing change its ranking?
Not documented. Vinted lists time since upload as a signal but does not say whether an edit counts as a new upload, so don't edit just to climb. Correcting the category, brand, size, condition or description is different: those fields decide which filtered searches the listing can appear in. Deleting and re-listing the same item multiple times is banned.
Do bumps really help?
They buy exposure, not sales. A Bump temporarily affects ranking for 3 or 7 days or until the item sells, and its price appears only at payment. During a Bump you can lower the item's price but not raise it. If a listing is already seen but nobody favourites it, more exposure repeats that result, so fix price or photos first.
