How buyers search on resale marketplaces

Vinted is the only one of the three that describes its search. Help article 409, "Recommended content on Vinted", says results are filtered "based on criteria such as category, brand, price range, and more", then ranked "based on relevance to the query and to you". Among its roughly 15 parameters, "Item descriptions" are used "to evaluate the relevance of an item to the search query".

A wrong category or brand field keeps the listing out of filtered results; inside the filter, your words get matched. Title weight isn't published; the signals Vinted does publish are in how the Vinted algorithm ranks listings.

The OLX Terms we read don't describe search ranking, and we found nothing on Allegro Lokalnie's. Decision rule for both: write the words a buyer would type into the search box, in the order they'd type them.

Listing titles for resale: brand, model, size, key detail

Decision rule: if a word isn't something a buyer would type or must see before clicking, move it to the description.

What stays out of the title:

• Other brands. Vinted's Catalogue Rules: "Using other brands which are not related to your item in the brand category, title/description or as a hashtag in your listing is not allowed." "Nike style" on unbranded trainers breaks it.
• "Inspired by" plus a brand. The same rules call this "generally prohibited".
• Filler. "Beautiful", "must have" and "bargain" take the space a search word could use.

Descriptions: condition, measurements, flaws

Vinted's Catalogue Rules say: "In the item description, you should also describe any defect, alteration, missing part of the item." One template keeps you from skipping a line:

• Line 1: what it is, in the title's words (brand, model, size, colour)
• Condition in your own words, matching the grade in the condition field
• Every flaw, where it is, and the photo number that shows it
• Measurements taken flat, in cm, and how they compare with the label size
• Material as printed on the care label, or "no label"
• What's included and what's missing (box, belt, charger, dust bag)
• Electronics: what you tested, on which date, and what you didn't test

Photos carry the same evidence; labels, flaws and measurement shots are covered in product photos that sell second-hand items. How much each flaw should move the price is in how condition changes resale price.

Words that cause claims

Vinted's UK help page 1090 counts wrong colour, incorrect size, undisclosed missing parts, undisclosed damage, different main materials, counterfeit and functionality not as described as significantly not as described. OLX's Pakiet Ochronny (Annex 8) covers items that don't match the listing, including size, colour, function, undisclosed damage, an incomplete item and a "new" item showing wear.

The claim process is in Vinted returns and not-as-described claims. Avoid service-style wording too: Vinted's Catalogue Rules treat "can be ordered", "currently out of stock" and "check back later" as commercial activity, and OLX's Terms require the item to be in your possession.

Marketplace-specific rules and limits

The Vinted rows come from UK pages; we didn't read a Polish copy of the Catalogue Rules, so check vinted.pl. Title character limits weren't in any page we read; the listing form shows them. Allegro Lokalnie sells only from a regular private allegro.pl account, as a local listing, Kup teraz or a 7-day auction.

Vinted has announced updated Terms taking effect on 5 October 2026 in Germany and France and on 8 October 2026 in the UK and Poland. Press coverage (Value Added Resource, September 2026) reports the Buyer Protection fee becoming the "Vinted fee" and refund rights moving to a separate Refund Policy; re-read your country's Terms and Catalogue Rules after those dates. Adapting one description for three platforms

Keep one master description off-platform and edit a copy per marketplace. The full routine is in crosslisting on Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie, part of the complete crosslisting guide. The text edits are small:

Decision rule: if a sentence mentions another marketplace or a way to reach you outside the app, delete it before publishing anywhere.

Language: Polish, English or both

Article 409 lists "Item lister and buyer preferred language" and "Item and buyer location country" among Vinted's parameters, without saying how two-language listings are handled.

• Polish buyers on vinted.pl, OLX or Allegro Lokalnie: title and first lines in Polish, brand and model as on the label ("kurtka The North Face Nuptse, rozmiar M, czarna").
• An English line: after the Polish text, so the opening still matches Polish queries.
• Translation or AI writing tools: check every size, material and flaw against the item. eBay's User Agreement allows generative-AI tools for listings but keeps the seller responsible for accuracy; the Vinted and OLX pages we read don't address AI-written text.
