Key takeaways
  • Item Verification costs the buyer £10, €10 or 45 zł per item, and Electronics Verification £5, €5 or 20 zł, on the price lists read on 13 Sept 2026. Buyer Protection is charged on top.
  • A designer listing qualifies only from £85 in the UK, €100 in France and Germany and 450 zł in Poland, and only for listed brands in clothing, bags, accessories, jewellery and shoes. Below that line, your own checks are the only check.
  • A failed item goes back to the seller, the buyer gets the fee, Buyer Protection and shipping refunded, and the seller cannot upload that item again.
  • Item Verification checks authenticity, not quality or condition. Electronics Verification checks function and condition too, but not manufacturing defects.
  • eBay's Authenticity Guarantee is automatic above price thresholds and free to the seller. Vinted's service is chosen and paid for by the buyer.

Vinted item verification is an optional authenticity check that the buyer pays for: the item travels to a Vinted hub, where experts decide whether it is genuine before it reaches the buyer. On the price lists read on 13 Sept 2026 it costs £10 per item in the UK, €10 in France and Germany and 45 zł in Poland. A separate Electronics Verification costs £5, €5 or 20 zł and also tests whether the device works.

Below: when it applies, what a fail means, what a pass does not prove and how eBay differs. Vinted's other charges are in Vinted fees by country.

What Vinted Item Verification is

Vinted runs two services. Item Verification covers "selected designer items" and checks authenticity only. The UK help page says it "is intended to verify an item's authenticity, not its quality or condition", and that its experts "aren't associated with any brands listed on Vinted".

Electronics Verification covers certain models of mobile phones, tablets and games consoles on the UK page. There the team tests "hardware and software", authenticity, whether the condition matches the listing and whether the listing's attributes match the device.

On a listing, look for the diamond badge (designer items) or the Electronics Verification banner (devices).

Prices: Item and Electronics Verification by market

In all four markets the fee "consists of a verification service fee and shipping costs from the Seller to the hub". Hub-to-buyer shipping is in the normal checkout shipping price, and Buyer Protection still applies.

Who pays and when it applies

The buyer pays. Sellers "can't purchase it for their own items". A designer listing qualifies only if it meets all three conditions: the price threshold above, a brand on Vinted's eligible list, and one of clothing, bags, accessories, jewellery or shoes.

  • The seller can't opt out. If the buyer adds verification, the seller gets a prepaid label to the hub and has 5 business days to ship.
  • Price cuts change eligibility. Drop a vinted.pl listing from 480 zł to 430 zł, for example, and it falls below the 450 zł line. Check the threshold before you accept a lower offer.
  • No bundles. Item Verification can't be selected for items in a bundle.
  • Not from a Pro buying account. The UK, FR and DE pages say Pro sellers must use a standard account to buy with verification.
  • Where it works: within the UK; within France and between France and Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Italy; within Germany and between Germany and France, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands; within Poland and between Poland and Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Romania.
  • Electronics (UK page): only with an integrated shipping option, one item at a time.
How an order with Vinted Item Verification works
  1. 1Buyer adds it at checkoutFee per item on top of Buyer Protection
  2. 2Seller ships to the hubPrepaid label, 5 business days
  3. 3Experts check authenticityUsually 1–2 business days after arrival
  4. 4Pass: sent to the buyerWithin 1–2 business days, with a hangtag and a digital report
  5. 5Buyer confirms or claims2 days (14 days from a Pro seller)
Vinted says delivery with Item Verification usually takes up to 10 business days from when the seller ships. Source: Vinted help page 1147 (UK, FR, DE, PL), read 13 Sept 2026.

Sellers are paid when the order completes, so a verified order pays out later.

What happens if an item fails verification

Help page 1147 gives the same steps in all four markets:

  1. Vinted ships the item back to the seller.
  2. The seller "will no longer be able to re-upload this item".
  3. The buyer gets a full refund of the service fee, Buyer Protection and all shipping, within 1–2 business days after the item is sent back.

Vinted calls its counterfeit policy "zero-tolerance" and says sellers who repeatedly list non-genuine items will have their account blocked definitively. A device that fails Electronics Verification also goes back to the seller with a full refund to the buyer, and both are told the reason.

After a pass, a buyer can still press "I have an issue" within 2 days of receiving the item (14 days from a Pro seller). Claims are covered in Vinted returns and not-as-described claims.

What verification does not prove

A pass answers one narrow question:

  • Not condition. A genuine bag can still have undisclosed wear, which falls under the normal not-as-described rules.
  • Not defects or repairs. Electronics Verification "doesn't include repairs, modification, or detecting any manufacturing defects". Repaired or refurbished phones can pass if they pass the functionality tests, and battery health may be up to 2 percentage points below the selected range.
  • Not your warranty. The UK Electronics page warns that opening a sealed item during the check may affect its warranty, without compensation.
  • Not a certificate that travels. Vinted says to trust only reports "sent directly by Vinted after the process is complete", so a report screenshot in a listing proves nothing.
  • Not a good buy. A genuine item bought above its market still loses money. Check the price first with the complete Vinted reseller guide.

For UK handbags, trainers or fashion: at £200 or more, eBay.co.uk checks the sale automatically at no charge to you, while Vinted checks only if the buyer pays. Between £85 and £199.99, both are optional: £10 on Vinted, £20 on eBay.co.uk. Below £85, Vinted offers no check.

Your own checks before buying

Verification happens only after you pay, and not at all below the threshold. Screen first; treat the service as a backstop:

  • If you plan to rely on verification: the diamond badge shows and you are not buying it in a bundle
  • Photos are the seller's own: Vinted's Catalogue Rules ban stock photos, photos from ads and watermarked images
  • Labels, serial or date codes and hardware are shown close up; ask for them if missing
  • The seller's other listings don't show many near-identical "new" pieces of the same model
  • Receipts or original documents are mentioned; Vinted says its check draws on any documents from the seller
  • Buy price plus the verification fee and Buyer Protection still leaves a margin at your expected sale price

Photo red flags and replica-seller patterns are covered in how to spot fakes and replica listings, and documentation as a price factor in designer bag resale.

reva's photo-based condition check is not an authentication service: it does not tell you whether an item is genuine. Use it to pick which listings deserve your own checks and Vinted's verification, not in place of them.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Vinted item verification cost?
On the price lists read on 13 Sept 2026, Item Verification for designer pieces costs £10 per item in the UK, €10 in France and Germany and 45 zł in Poland. Electronics Verification costs £5, €5 or 20 zł. The fee is flat: for example, 45 zł is 10% of a 450 zł bag but 5% of a 900 zł one. Buyer Protection is charged on top.
Who pays for Vinted item verification?
The buyer. Vinted's help pages say the service is free for sellers, who can neither buy it for their own items nor switch it off. For electronics, the UK page says the check may be included at no extra cost on some eligible orders, so read the checkout total.
What happens if an item fails Vinted verification?
The item goes back to the seller and the buyer is refunded the service fee, Buyer Protection and all shipping, within 1–2 business days of the parcel being sent back. For designer items the seller cannot upload that item again, and repeat offenders have their account blocked for good.
Is Vinted item verification the same as eBay authentication?
No. On Vinted the buyer chooses the check and pays a flat fee per item. eBay's Authenticity Guarantee is applied automatically above category price thresholds, costs the seller nothing and cannot be switched off; on eBay.co.uk it starts at £200 for handbags, trainers and fashion. Both send a failed item back to the seller and refund the buyer.
