How to Sell a Used Dyson Vacuum or Hair Tool
Dyson is copied down to the serial sticker. A serial, a battery test on video and genuine parts are what make a buyer trust yours.

- Find the serial number on both the machine and its box — Dyson provides a per-category location guide on their help page.
- Counterfeit signs include poor finish, misapplied logos, uneven joins, scratches, uneven edges and spelling mistakes on packaging.
- Run a runtime test: fully charge, run on normal or max mode, time until it stops, and share that number in your listing.
- Disclose any third-party batteries or chargers honestly — the price effect is unknown, but hidden parts cause disputes.
- Vinted prohibits loose used batteries; Poczta Polska bans all batteries in parcels — check your carrier's current rules.
Selling a used Dyson vacuum or hair tool starts with proving it is genuine and works. The serial number links the machine to its warranty history, a runtime test shows the battery is functional, and checking for counterfeits protects both you and the buyer. This guide is part of our resale category guides — the hub for selling specific product types on Polish marketplaces.
This page covers how to identify your model and find the serial, spot counterfeit hair tools using the signs from spot fake listings, run an honest battery test, prepare the machine for photos, and price it correctly on Polish marketplaces.
Identify the machine: model and serial
Dyson's serial-number help page shows where the serial lives on each type of machine — vacuums, hair dryers, stylers and hand dryers have different sticker locations. The serial is printed on both the machine and its original box. Take a photo of the serial sticker on the machine and a matching one on the box side. Listing both proves the box belongs to the machine and rules out a swapped serial from a different unit.

Check Dyson's guide for your machine type: follow the link on their serial-number page rather than guessing the sticker's location. Different vacuum models place the sticker on the body, the battery pack or the handle — the guide tells you which.
Counterfeits: hair tools and copied serial stickers
Dyson warns that counterfeit machines "even include copies of Dyson's serial number stickers and Dyson warranty cards." The counterfeit signs they list:
- Poor finish — misapplied logos, uneven joins between body parts, visible scratches on the housing
- Uneven edges on the body shell
- Poor-quality packaging — cheap-looking box, missing inserts
- Spelling mistakes on labels or warranty cards
Dyson does not service counterfeit machines and will not refund them. If you are selling a hair tool (dryer, styler, straightener), examine it closely against these signs before listing.
A receipt from an authorised Dyson retailer is stronger evidence than a serial number alone — counterfeits can copy stickers but rarely come with genuine proof of purchase. If you bought from a third-party marketplace at a deep discount and have no receipt, disclose that in the listing.
Battery: runtime test and genuine vs third-party
Cordless Dysons rely on their battery, and buyers want to know it holds a charge. The honest way to test: fully charge the battery, switch the machine to its normal mode (or max if it has one), and time how long it runs until it stops automatically. Record that runtime and share it in your listing — for example, "runtime tested: 18 minutes on normal mode" is more trustworthy than "battery like new."
Dyson does not publish expected runtimes by model. Do not claim a specific runtime expectation — only report what your test showed.
If your machine has a third-party battery or charger, disclose it honestly. The price effect of third-party parts is not documented publicly, so do not claim a specific discount — but hidden third-party parts are a common reason for returns and disputes. A buyer who discovers a non-Dyson battery after purchase will likely open a case.

Clean filters, bin and brush bar before photos
Buyers expect a clean machine. Dyson's manual says filters are washable — rinse them under cold water until the water runs clear, then let them dry completely before reinstalling. Do not use chemicals or put filters in a dishwasher.
The brush bar collects hair and fibres over time. Remove the brush bar and cut away any wrapped hair with scissors — do not pull it out forcefully as that can damage the bristles. Wipe the bin with a damp cloth if needed.
A clean machine in the photos signals that you maintained it, and buyers read that as evidence the internal parts are also cared for.
Accessories, charger and box
List every accessory that came with the machine: all vacuum attachments (crevice tool, soft brush, mini motorised head, extension wand), the wall dock, the charger, and any original packaging. If something is missing, say so plainly — a listing that omits a missing charger will get a lowball offer or a return request.

For hair tools, list the original nozzle attachments, the heat-resistant mat if included, and the charging cable or dock. Original accessories and especially the original box add value because they prove the machine was not sourced from parts.
Pricing against the exact model
Price from comparable listings of the exact model — same model number, same generation, same included accessories. A V11 Animal is not the same product as a V11 Absolute, even though they look similar.
Compare against machines with similar battery condition (your runtime test result) and similar accessory completeness. If your machine has a third-party battery, price slightly below comparable machines with genuine batteries — how much below is not documented, so use your judgment and start competitively.
The resale pricing guide has the full method for building comparables and applying the five-level price ladder. Pricing against exact models is the same approach used for used electronics resale, where model and condition matching drives the comp pool.
For another premium home appliance example, see Thermomix resale — the same principles of serial verification, accessory completeness and model-exact pricing apply.
Shipping, batteries and local pickup
Batteries affect shipping. Poczta Polska's prohibited-items list, updated 28 December 2020, lists batteries as prohibited in parcels — "Disposable batteries leak, lithium-ion batteries explode." Dyson's cordless vacuums and hair tools contain lithium-ion batteries, so sending one by Poczta Polska is not allowed. Check your carrier's current rules before listing for shipment.
Vinted's Polish Catalogue Rules explicitly prohibit "used or expired batteries and power banks" — they must be "new and in original unopened packaging." This means you cannot sell loose used Dyson batteries as spare parts on Vinted. A Dyson vacuum with a built-in battery is not a battery item itself, so the device itself is allowed — but do not list loose used batteries.
Local pickup avoids shipping hassles entirely and is common for expensive items. OLX's delivery (Pakiet Ochronny) gives buyers a 48-hour window to open a claim; if a claim is accepted, the return is at the seller's cost — see our OLX delivery protection guide for details. Allegro Lokalnie charges a 4.9% fee for electronics and 7.9% for most other categories, with 0 zł for local pickup listings — making in-person exchange the cheapest option.
