How to Resell Used Items, Category by Category
Price drivers, risks and channels for every kind of item, so you can judge a new category before you buy into it.

- Judge any category with five questions: exact identity, 15-minute test, fake/lock risk, shipping fit, and channel limits.
- Electronics: high value but account locks (Apple) and fakes require caution; OLX gives only 2 free listings for phones/laptops.
- Fashion: Vinted is free for private sellers with optional Item Verification (45 zł); opened cosmetics and perfume are prohibited on Vinted PL.
- Home items: heavy and fragile mean local pickup; OLX limits furniture to 1 listing per 60 days for private sellers.
- Hobby: LEGO by set number, vinyl by Discogs catalogue number, and books by ISBN are the clearest pricing paths.
- Sport: seasonal timing matters but no invented sales data; batteries are prohibited in Poczta Polska parcels.

- Why this method works across all categories
- Testing a new category with three items
Every resale category behaves differently. What sets the price on an iPhone has nothing in common with what sets the price on a vintage denim jacket or a box of LEGO. The channel that works for electronics may trap you in fees for fashion. And the risk that kills a deal in one category may not exist in another.
This page gives you a method to judge any category before you buy your first item, then applies that method to the six main category families on the Polish market. Each family gets a short summary, its price key, the main risk to watch, and a link to its full guide. The method stays the same across all categories — you simply run the same five checks every time.
Five questions to judge any category before you buy
Before you commit money to any item, run it through five checks. Categories that pass all five are your safest starting points. Categories that fail one or more need extra caution or a different strategy.
The key insight is that every category has a dominant factor that determines whether you can price it accurately and sell it profitably. For electronics, it's the model number and account status. For fashion, it's brand authenticity and size. For collectibles, it's the searchable identifier. For furniture, it's whether the buyer can transport it. These five questions map directly to those dominant factors.
- 1Exact identityCan you identify the exact model/edition from a code, label or set number?
- 2Quick testCan you verify it works in 15 minutes or less?
- 3Fake or lock riskHow likely are fakes, stolen goods or account-locked devices?
- 4Shipping fitCan it ship safely and cheaply — no batteries, fragility, excessive size or weight?
- 5Channel limitsWhich Polish platform lets you list it, and how many free listings do you get?
Question 1 — exact identity is your price key. If you cannot verify the exact model, set number, ISBN or catalogue number, you are buying blind. Electronics without a model number, vintage clothing without a brand tag, and collectibles without provenance all fail this check.
Question 2 — quick test determines your upfront effort. A phone you can power on and check settings takes minutes. A bicycle needs a test ride. A vintage amplifier needs voltage and speaker output checks. If verification takes longer than 15 minutes, factor that into your time cost.
Question 3 — fake or lock risk varies wildly. iPhones and iPads can be locked to a previous owner's Apple Account, making them useless. Designer sunglasses and jewellery without hallmarks are easy to fake. Trading cards in graded slabs carry less risk than raw cards. This question separates categories where you need expertise from those where you can verify with simple checks.
Question 4 — shipping fit decides whether you can sell nationally or only locally. Batteries are prohibited in Poczta Polska parcels (see the page dated 28 December 2020). Large furniture and appliances usually require local pickup, which limits your buyer pool to your city. Fragile items need careful packing, which adds cost.
Question 5 — channel limits matters on the Polish platforms. OLX restricts free private listings by category: smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs get only 2 free listings per month. Allegro Lokalnie charges 7.9% on most categories (4.9% on Elektronika). Vinted is free for private sellers but charges a buyer fee and offers optional verification. The scoring table later on this page maps each category to its best channel.
Electronics: phones, laptops, consoles, cameras, audio
Electronics are high-value but high-risk. The exact model number sets the price, but account locks and fakes are real threats. This category includes iPhones, Android phones, laptops, gaming consoles, cameras, headphones and audio equipment. The used electronics resale guide covers phones, tablets and laptops in detail.
The same identification method applies to specific devices: see the laptop resale guide and iPad resale guide for model-number checks tailored to those categories.
Price key: The exact model number (iPhone 13 Pro 128 GB Sierra Blue, not "iPhone 13"). Every variant in storage, colour and condition trades at a different level.
Main risk: Apple devices can be Activation Locked — the previous owner's Apple Account still protects the device, and without their credentials it is useless. Always ask the seller to power it on and reach the Hello screen before you buy. Android phones are less locked but can have FRP (Factory Reset Protection) on older models. Fakes are common on chargers, cables and earphones.
Testing effort: 10–15 minutes. Power on, check settings for model number, test the screen and camera, and check the charging port. For laptops, run a quick boot test and check the battery cycle count if possible.
Wearables and components have their own quirks: the smartwatch resale guide covers battery-health checks, and the graphics card resale guide covers mining wear and driver checks.
Channel in Poland: OLX is the strongest platform for electronics because buyers prefer local pickup for high-value items and OLX has no buyer fee. The private seller limit is 2 free listings per month for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs — you will hit it fast. Allegro Lokalnie charges 4.9% on Elektronika (at the time of writing, September 2026). Vinted offers Electronics Verification for 20 zł (paid by the buyer), which adds trust but adds cost.
Vinted update: Vinted's updated Terms take effect on 8 October 2026 in Poland, and the buyer fee is being renamed "Vinted fee".
Why local pickup matters for electronics: For high-value electronics, the transaction typically involves testing before committing. OLX's location-based search and local pickup option align with how high-value electronics transactions work in practice.
See iPhone resale guide for detailed method. Console and camera guides follow the same pattern, and the video games resale guide covers cartridges and discs specifically.

Fashion: streetwear, outdoor, denim, bags, shoes, kids clothing, sunglasses, jewellery
Fashion is the broadest category and the most accessible on Vinted. The platform is free for private sellers — you pay nothing to list, and the buyer pays the Buyer Protection fee (usually 5% of the item price plus 2.90 zł). This makes fashion the lowest-cost entry point for new resellers.
Price key: Brand, size, condition and completeness. Streetwear brands command premiums. Outdoor technical jackets and denim (especially Levi's) have clear value markers. The outdoor jackets resale guide and Levi's resale guide cover brand-specific value markers for those niches. Size matters more than in other categories — a rare size in demand can outprice a common one.
Main risk: Counterfeits are common on designer streetwear, luxury bags and high-end outdoor jackets. Vinted's Item Verification (45 zł, paid by the buyer) adds authentication for clothing. Condition disputes are frequent — always photograph every defect and measure accurately. The sunglasses resale guide and jewellery resale guide go deeper on authenticating items that carry no hallmark.
Vinted PL restrictions: Vinted Poland prohibits opened or used cosmetics, including perfume, makeup, creams and hair products — see the perfume resale guide for what is still allowed. If the original sealed packaging is broken, it cannot be listed. This is a hard rule — listings get removed and accounts can be penalised.
Football shirts and wedding dresses are two more high-demand fashion niches with their own pricing quirks: see the football shirts resale guide and wedding dress resale guide.
Testing effort: 5–10 minutes. Check brand tags, measure waist/inseam/shoulders, photograph any stains, tears or fading. Verify authenticity for designer items, either through Item Verification or by learning authentication points for specific brands.
Sizing across platforms: Polish buyers on Vinted often filter by exact measurements. Include chest, length and sleeve measurements in centimetres in your listing description.
Channel in Poland: Vinted dominates fashion. The free listing allowance is unlimited for private sellers. Allegro Lokalnie is an option for higher-value items (7.9% fee) but reaches fewer fashion buyers. OLX is less popular for fashion in Poland.
See streetwear resale guide for method.
Home and kitchen: furniture, appliances, design ceramics
Home items split into two groups: large furniture and appliances (usually local pickup only) and smaller kitchen items that ship affordably. The category includes IKEA furniture, kitchen appliances, PRL-era design ceramics and small decor. Small kitchen appliances like the Thermomix resale category have specific pricing considerations.
The Dyson resale guide and power tools resale guide cover other appliance niches with the same model-number approach.
Price key: Brand, model, condition and completeness. Kitchen appliances from known brands (Dyson, Thermomix, high-end coffee machines) have searchable model numbers. Vintage ceramics from the PRL era (Polish People's Republic, roughly 1945–1989) require knowledge of designers and makers — see the PRL design resale guide for how to identify them.
Main risk: Size and fragility. A dining table needs two people and a van. A Thermomix is heavy and ships as a parcel only with careful packing. PRL ceramics can have hidden damage or repairs. Condition disputes on used appliances are common — always test appliances in person or request a video demonstration.
OLX limits: Furniture gets only 1 free listing per 60 days for private sellers on OLX. Most other Dom i Ogród items get 2 free listings. This makes OLX limiting for volume furniture resellers.
Channel in Poland: Local pickup is the norm, so OLX and Allegro Lokalnie (local listings) work best. Vinted ships larger items but buyer hesitation is higher because shipping costs rise with size and weight.
See furniture resale guide for method.
Hobby and collectibles: LEGO, cards, records, games, coins, guitars
Hobby items are where exact identification meets strong collector demand. The price key is almost always a searchable code: set number for LEGO, ISBN for books, catalogue number for vinyl, card set and number for trading cards. This makes pricing more transparent than in most categories.
Price key: The searchable identifier. For LEGO it is the set number. For vinyl records it is the Discogs catalogue number. For books it is the ISBN. For trading cards it is the set, collector number and whether it is graded.
Grading scales: Discogs uses the Goldmine Standard (Mint, Near Mint, VG+, VG, Good/Good Plus, Poor/Fair), with VG+ described by Discogs as "generally worth 50% of the Near Mint value" and VG as 25%. Understanding this scale is essential for vinyl pricing — condition directly drives price.
Main risk: Completeness. A LEGO set missing minifigures or a book missing a dust jacket drops sharply in value. Graded trading cards carry less risk than raw cards because the slab guarantees condition, as the trading cards resale guide explains. Vintage toys and collectibles may have hidden wear or non-original parts.
Board games and other toys follow the same identification method: see the board games resale guide and toys resale guide for category-specific checks.
Collectible coins and guitars work the same way — a searchable identifier decides the price: see the collectible coins resale guide and guitar resale guide.
Testing effort: 10–20 minutes. For LEGO, verify the set number against LEGO's official building instructions to confirm contents. For vinyl, inspect the record visually and play-test if possible. For cards, check the condition against established grading standards.
Channel in Poland: Vinted works well for LEGO and smaller collectibles. Allegro Lokalnie suits higher-value vinyl and instruments. Discogs is the reference for vinyl grading and pricing globally.
Why Discogs matters for vinyl: Even if you sell locally on Allegro Lokalnie, checking the Discogs catalogue number gives you the grading scale and price context. The platform's Goldmine Standard percentages are Discogs' own rule of thumb for condition-based pricing, not market data.
| Category | Grading system | Key rule | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl records | Discogs Goldmine Standard | VG+ = ~50% of NM value; VG = 25% | |
| Trading cards | 1–10 PSA scale or similar | Slabs guarantee condition; raw cards require seller trust | |
| LEGO sets | Complete / Incomplete / Bulk | Missing minifigures drastically reduce price | |
| Books | New / Like New / Good / Acceptable | Dust jacket and first editions add premium |
See LEGO resale guide for detailed method.

Sport and outdoor: bikes, ski gear, fishing, scooters
Sport and outdoor items are seasonal and often large. Bikes, ski equipment and fishing gear all require buyer trust in condition because the buyer cannot easily test them before purchase.
Price key: Brand, model, size and condition. Bikes have frame sizes and component specs. Ski boots are sized to the rider. Fishing rods have action ratings and lure weight ranges. Specific model numbers and component lists are essential for pricing.
Main risk: Safety. A bike with a cracked frame or faulty brakes is dangerous. Ski bindings must be professionally adjusted to the boot size — incorrect mounting is a serious safety hazard. Used helmets are generally not resaleable because you cannot verify their crash history.
Vinted PL restrictions: Vinted Poland prohibits protective equipment that is not fully functional, including bike helmets. This is a hard category ban. Also note that Poczta Polska prohibits batteries in parcels — any electric scooter or e-bike with a battery cannot be shipped through Poczta Polska. See the electric scooter resale guide for local-pickup-only logistics.
Seasonal timing: Ski gear sells in autumn and early winter. Bikes sell in spring and summer. Fishing gear peaks in spring. No invented sales data exists for seasonal demand — these are observed patterns, not statistics. See the ski gear resale guide and fishing tackle resale guide for category-specific timing and condition checks.
Channel in Poland: Local pickup is standard for bikes, ski gear and large fishing equipment. OLX and Allegro Lokalnie are the main platforms. Vinted is less suitable because of the size and the helmet ban.
See bike resale guide for detailed method.

Category scoring table
This table applies the five-question method to each major category family. It is an editorial method-based rating — we evaluate categories by what you can verify, not by sales statistics.
| Category | Price key clarity | Fake/lock risk | Testing effort | Shipping difficulty | Best channel | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Electronics | high | high | medium | medium | OLX, Allegro | |
| Fashion | medium | medium | low | low | Vinted | |
| Home - furniture | medium | low | medium | high | OLX, Allegro local | |
| Home - small appliances | high | medium | low | medium | OLX, Allegro | |
| Hobby - LEGO | high | low | low | low | Vinted, Allegro | |
| Hobby - vinyl/records | high | low | low | low | Vinted, Discogs | |
| Hobby - cards | medium | medium | low | low | Vinted | |
| Sport - bikes | medium | medium | medium | high | OLX, Allegro local | |
| Sport - ski/fish | medium | medium | low | high | OLX, Allegro local |
How to read this table:
- Clear price key + low risk (columns 2 and 3): Your easiest starts — LEGO, vinyl, books.
- Clear price key + high risk: Worth the effort with proper checks — iPhones, Dysons.
- Unclear price key + low risk: Harder to price, lower risk — vintage clothing, wedding dresses.
- Unclear price key + high risk: Proceed with caution — designer sunglasses, unauthenticated jewellery, PRL ceramics with possible reissues.
This table is not a ranking of which categories make the most money. It is a guide to where your effort pays off fastest. A high-risk category like iPhones can be very profitable if you learn to check for Activation Lock, but it takes more skill than selling LEGO sets where the only verification is matching the box number to LEGO's website.
Why this method works across all categories
The best things to resell page ranks categories by demand, and it complements this scoring table by showing where buyer interest concentrates. Use both together: the scoring table tells you which categories fit your operation, and the demand page tells you where that demand exists.
The five-question framework adapts to any new category because it targets the universal challenges of resale: identification, verification, risk, logistics and access. When a new product type appears on the market, you run these five questions before buying your first item. The answers tell you whether the category is ready for you or whether you need to build expertise first.
Categories that fail on question 1 (exact identity) are not impossible — they simply require different expertise. Vintage clothing without brand tags needs you to recognise fabrics, cuts and construction details. PRL-era ceramics require knowing which designers and factories produced which patterns. These are learnable skills, but they take longer than checking a barcode.
Categories that fail on question 4 (shipping fit) can still work if you focus on local sales. A large sofa will never ship affordably, but if you live in a city with high demand, local OLX and Allegro Lokalnie buyers will collect it. The channel column in the scoring table reflects this reality: furniture and large appliances map to local-only platforms.
The three-item test at the end of this page is your bridge from theory to practice. It works because it limits your downside. You set a max price, you track real outcomes, and you decide based on data. No category is too risky to test with three items — even iPhones, if you learn the Activation Lock check first.
This method of category evaluation connects directly to how reva approaches the market. When you understand which platform works for each category, you can use Scout to find underpriced listings and Buy rules to automate your sourcing. The scoring table on this page tells you which platform to check first for each category family, and Scout monitors those platforms continuously. Whether you start with LEGO on Vinted or phones on OLX, the five questions give you a consistent framework for expansion. The method scales because it does not rely on memorising category-specific tricks — it relies on checking the five factors that matter everywhere.
The five questions work as a consistent decision framework regardless of how the market changes. New platforms will emerge, fees will shift, and new product categories will appear. What stays constant is the need to identify what you are buying, verify it works, assess the fraud risk, handle shipping logistics, and understand the listing limits. Apply these five questions to any new category and you have a clear baseline for whether it fits your operation and your skill level.
Testing a new category with three items
Once you understand a category from the table above, test it with real money before scaling. The safest test follows a three-item rule:
- Pick three items of one category you can identify exactly (by set number, ISBN, model code or catalogue number)
- Set a maximum buy price using a calculator — never pay more than the fast-sell level minus all your costs
- List on the channel recommended in the table above
- Record days to sell and net profit after all fees and shipping
- Decide to scale or stop based on real data, not projections
Example: Say you want to test LEGO resale. You find three sets you can verify by set number: a retired architecture set, a current city set and a Duplo bundle. You set a maximum buy price of 200 zł for each — roughly half the fast-sell level for your target price range. You list all three on Vinted. Two sell within three weeks at prices that cover your buy cost, fees and shipping. You now have real data: LEGO on Vinted works for you, at those price points, in that timeframe.
The max-buy price is your safety net. It comes from the price ladder: you never buy above the fast-sell level because that leaves no room for fees, shipping and your time. Use the max buy price calculator to set this number for any item.
To price any item once you own it, see the resale pricing guide. For where to find items to resell, see the product sourcing guide.
