Can You Resell Perfume in Poland?

Sealed bottles, opened bottles, testers and empties are four different answers. Start with the platform rules, then decide if it is worth it.

Key takeaways
  • Vinted's Poland catalogue rules forbid any used, tried or unsealed perfume — a broken seal ends the listing before it starts.
  • Allegro.pl bans empty or mostly empty perfume bottles outright; OLX's regulation does not mention opened or empty perfume bottles.
  • OLX gives private sellers 50 free listings a month in its perfume category, separate from its general cosmetics limits.
  • Poczta Polska's banned-items list (updated December 2020) excludes high-alcohol perfume concentrates and aerosols; confirm with your carrier before promising shipping.
  • A batch code shows which production run a bottle came from, not that the perfume is genuine — it's a manufacturing date marker, not an authenticity certificate.

Yes, you can resell perfume — but only within tight limits that differ by platform and by the state of the bottle. A sealed, genuine bottle is usually fine to list; one you've opened, tried or emptied runs into real restrictions on at least one major marketplace. This page walks through what Vinted, Allegro and OLX actually say, when perfume resale simply isn't worth the risk, and — for the bottles that clear every check — how fakes, shipping and listing actually work.

It's one entry in reva's category-by-category resale guides, which covers what sells and what doesn't across dozens of item types.

The short answer, platform by platform

Start with the state of the bottle, because that's what each platform's rules actually key on:

  • Vinted (Poland). The catalogue rules are explicit: cosmetics, including perfume, that have been used or tried even once, or taken out of their original sealed packaging, are strictly prohibited ("sprzedaż kosmetyków, które zostały użyte lub wypróbowane nawet raz jest ściśle zabroniona"). Sealed and genuine is fine; anything else isn't a grey area.
  • Allegro.pl. The platform's list of restricted goods bans empty or mostly empty cosmetic and perfume bottles outright. The page is written for allegro.pl; whether the same line applies to Allegro Lokalnie is not stated.
  • OLX. Perfumes have their own category with a free-listing limit of 50 a month for private sellers. OLX's regulation does not mention opened or used cosmetics in the perfume category.

Sealed, opened, tester, decant: what each means for the rules

"Sealed" means the original packaging is intact — the cellophane wrap or box seal hasn't been broken, and the pump has never been pressed. That is the state Vinted's rule requires.

"Opened" or "tried", on Vinted's own wording, covers a bottle used even once. Spraying it on your wrist to check the scent before you decided to sell counts.

Testers and decants sit in a grey zone. A tester is usually a full-size bottle sold without its outer box, often at a discount from the brand; a decant is a small amount poured from a larger bottle into a separate container. No platform explicitly addresses testers or decants in its perfume rules — treat that gap as a reason not to list one on Vinted, not as permission.

When perfume resale is not worth it

Put the two rules above together and a pattern shows up: an opened bottle has no legal route to a Vinted listing, and empty bottles are banned outright on Allegro.pl. Selling a genuine, sealed bottle still means navigating fakes and shipping restrictions — both covered next — and together they can make the paperwork outweigh the payout for a category that isn't rare enough to justify the hassle.

Should you list this bottle?
  1. 1Sealed in original packaging? No -> do not list on Vinted; check OLX rules first
  2. 2Genuine, with proof of purchase? No -> do not sell it
  3. 3Can you ship it legally, or only hand it over locally? No -> local pickup only
  4. 4Photos show the seal, box and batch code?Yes -> list with real photos

It's also a category regulators watch. The European Commission's Safety Gate report from March 2026 counted 4,671 product safety alerts across the EU in 2025, and said cosmetics and toys together made up over half of them. That's not a perfume-specific number, but it's a reason to be more careful with a category regulators already flag, not less.

Fakes and batch codes

Vinted's UK catalogue rules forbid counterfeit goods outright, and that applies to perfume the same as anything else. A batch code — a short string of letters and numbers the maker prints on the box, and sometimes on the bottle itself — is meant to trace a production run, and its format differs by brand. A batch code tells you when the perfume was manufactured, not whether it's genuine. What you can honestly offer is a clear, well-lit photo of the code in place, alongside the box and the bottle, so a buyer can compare it themselves.

If you're buying perfume to resell rather than clearing your own shelf, the checks in spotting fake listings before you buy apply here too — packaging quality, spelling on the box and a seller who won't answer questions about origin are the same red flags regardless of category.

Shipping liquids and alcohol

Perfume is mostly alcohol, and that limits how it can travel by post. Poczta Polska's list of banned items, last updated 28 December 2020, names perfume concentrates with a high alcohol content and aerosols among goods it will not carry. The list is a few years old, so treat it as a starting point rather than the current word — confirm with Poczta Polska directly before you promise "ships anywhere" in a listing.

If a marketplace's own shipping guidance doesn't mention perfume specifically, ask the carrier rather than guess; the general method for checking what a given item can travel by is in what you can and can't ship on Poland's marketplaces.

If you do sell: listing and pricing sealed bottles

For a bottle that clears every check above, the listing itself does the rest of the work. Photograph the sealed box from all sides, including the base where the batch code sits, and use your own photos rather than stock images — Vinted's rules on real photos apply to perfume the same as clothing. If you're listing several identical new bottles at once, be aware that Vinted's help page on commercial activity lists things like a high volume of near-identical, tagged items as a signal it looks at, alongside order counts and revenue.

Pricing follows the same logic as anything scarce enough to check demand for first — see jewellery resale and reselling designer sunglasses for two other categories where authenticity and packaging carry as much weight as the item itself.

Listing mechanics — titles, categories and photo rules specific to Vinted — are covered in Vinted's listing rules. If you're also selling on OLX, its free-listing limits for the perfume category are in OLX fees and listing limits.

  • Confirm the seal is unbroken and the box matches the bottle
  • Photograph the box from all sides, including the base with the batch code
  • Keep proof of purchase in case a buyer asks
  • Check current OLX or Allegro Lokalnie rules before listing anything that isn't sealed
  • Confirm shipping restrictions with Poczta Polska or your carrier before you list

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell a used or opened perfume on Vinted?
No. Vinted's Poland catalogue rules say selling cosmetics, including perfume, that have been used or tried even once, or removed from their original sealed packaging, is strictly prohibited ("sprzedaż kosmetyków, które zostały użyte lub wypróbowane nawet raz jest ściśle zabroniona"). That covers a bottle you sprayed once to check the scent, not just one you use daily. If the seal is broken, Vinted is not the right place to list it.
Can I sell an empty perfume bottle?
On Allegro.pl, no — its list of restricted goods says empty or mostly empty cosmetic and perfume bottles cannot be listed at all. Vinted's catalogue rules don't address empty bottles directly. OLX's regulation does not mention empty perfume bottles — check the current terms before you list one.
What is a perfume batch code?
A short string of letters and digits the maker prints on the box and sometimes the bottle base, meant to trace a production run rather than to prove authenticity to a buyer. Formats differ by brand and decoding methods vary — a batch code tells you when the perfume was made, not whether it's genuine. A clear photo of the code is what you can honestly offer.
Can perfume be sent by post in Poland?
Not always. Poczta Polska's list of banned items, last updated in December 2020, names perfume concentrates with high alcohol content and aerosols among goods it will not carry. Confirm current terms with whichever carrier you plan to use before you promise shipping in a listing.
