The Complete Product Sourcing Guide for Resellers

Buy fewer, better items: channels, checks and rules that protect your margin before you pay.

A reseller's sourcing map: online listings, second-hand shops and bales feeding one buy-or-pass decision
Key takeaways
  • Decide the buy with three numbers before you pay: a conservative resale estimate, your costs to sell it, and how long the money will be tied up. A find that fails one of them is a pass, however good the brand.
  • Your buy cost includes what the marketplace adds on top of the listing price. On vinted.pl the Buyer Protection fee is usually 5% + 2.90 zł, and OLX adds a Pakiet Ochronny fee whose amount appears in each listing.
  • Calculate the max buy price twice, once against your minimum profit and once against your minimum ROI, and pay no more than the lower figure. Set both floors from your own numbers.
  • Vinted's Terms ban bots, scraping and crawling programs unless Vinted authorises them. The speed you control comes from a narrow category, alerts you can act on, and a ceiling price decided in advance.
  • Bales and bulk buys change the risk from speed to hit rate. On Vinted, bulk-bought low-value goods are one of the signals of commercial selling on a personal account.

Sourcing items to resell comes down to one decision you repeat many times: buy only when a conservative resale estimate, minus fees and costs, still leaves your minimum profit at a price you can pay before someone else does. The stock itself comes from four places: single listings on Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie; second-hand shops and flea markets, including Polish lumpeks; private lots and house clearances; and bales. Every one of them loses money if you pay too much or buy what nobody wants, so this guide spends as long on the check as on the channels.

It is written for European resellers, with Poland in the foreground. You get each channel with its costs and rules, what Vinted's Terms say about speed tools, a demand estimate you can collect by hand, condition and authenticity checks, a max buy price formula and a weekly routine. Platform facts come from official pages checked on 13 September 2026, plus dated press coverage where the page says so. Every other number is marked as an example.

The sourcing equation: buy price, sale estimate, time to sell

A purchase is a bet on three numbers. Two of them you can estimate before you pay, and the third decides whether the profit is worth having.

profit per item = resale estimate − selling fees − shipping you pay − other costs − buy cost buy cost = listing price + buyer fee + inbound shipping + verification (if used)

The third number is time to sell. Money in an unsold item can't buy the next one. For example, a 60 zł profit that takes two months ties up your cash far longer than a 40 zł profit that turns in a week, so on a small budget the faster item can earn more over a season.

Example: you have 600 zł to spend. Option A is three jackets at 200 zł each, expected to sell for 280 zł each within about six weeks. Option B is ten T-shirts at 60 zł each, expected to sell for 90 zł each within about two weeks. Before fees and shipping, Option A makes 240 zł once in six weeks. Option B makes 300 zł in two weeks and frees the cash to buy again. Both assume the estimates hold, and whether they hold is what the checks further down are for.

Decision rules:

  • If you can't name a resale estimate backed by comparable items, you are guessing. Pass, or buy only at a price where a bad guess still breaks even.
  • If the profit is fine but you have no idea how long it takes to sell, check demand before you pay (see below).
  • If the item only works at the top of its price range, it is a pass. Plan the resale near fair value, not at the best case.

The pricing side of the estimate, from comps to a five-level price ladder, is in the resale pricing guide. The full loop from sourcing to payout is in how to start reselling in Europe.

Sourcing items to resell: the channel map

Each channel charges you in a different currency. Online listings cost you speed. Shops and markets cost you time on the road. Bales cost you cash up front and sorting hours. This table is our qualitative summary of those trade-offs, not measured data.

Channel You pay mostly with Items per purchase Main risk Depth
Single listings on Vinted, OLX, Allegro Lokalnie Speed and attention One Someone else buys first; buyer fees eat the gap Online sourcing section below
Buying on one marketplace to sell on another Research time One The gap closes after fees, shipping and returns Marketplace arbitrage
Lumpeks and charity shops Travel and rack time One to a handful Wasted trips; flaws you miss on the rack Lumpeks sourcing
Flea markets, house clearances, private lots Cash on the spot, negotiation Several to many No platform protection; weak items bundled with good ones Offline sourcing section below
Bales and wholesale Cash up front, sorting hours Dozens or more Low hit rate, unsold remainder, account signals Are clothing bales worth it?
Sourcing channels by speed and volume

Single online listingsVinted, OLX, Allegro Lokalnie. A mispriced item goes to whoever sees and pays first, one item at a time.
Private lots and clearancesA seller clearing a wardrobe or a flat. The first serious buyer can take everything, and you get the weak items with the good ones.
Shops and marketsLumpeks racks and flea markets. You pick item by item. Timing matters around delivery and discount days, not minutes.
Bales and wholesalePrice agreed in advance and volume is high. The risk moves from speed to hit rate and the unsold remainder.
Items you get per purchase →
A way to place each channel, not a ranking. Most resellers combine one fast channel with one volume channel.

Decision rules for choosing where to start:

  • Little cash, some spare hours in the day: single online listings and shops. You risk one item at a time.
  • Little time, more cash: lots or a small bale, but only after you know your hit rate from single items in the same category.
  • You already sell one category well: look for the same items on a second marketplace or in a second city, where the same knowledge pays twice.

Online sourcing on Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie

Online sourcing has one big advantage over a shop rack: you can compare an item with dozens of similar listings before you pay. The catch is that the listing price is not your buy cost. Each marketplace adds something on the buyer's side, and each protects you only if you pay through it.

Buyer side, checked 13 Sept 2026 Vinted OLX.pl Allegro Lokalnie
Fee added for the buyer Buyer Protection fee, on vinted.pl "usually" 5% + 2.90 zł, shown at checkout (price list dated 15.09.2025) Pakiet Ochronny fee, shown as a separate line; the amount is "indicated in the listing each time" and not published in OLX's documents Not covered by the fee sources we used; read the checkout total
Shipping Buyer pays for and chooses shipping (UK help page) OLX delivery needs Płatności OLX; the buyer prepays A buyer without Smart!, or below Smart!'s minimum order, pays a flat 10.95 zł (Allegro's Smart! on Lokalnie page)
What protection covers From private sellers: refund if the item doesn't arrive, arrives damaged or is significantly not as described; "Buy now" purchases only (UK help page). From Pro sellers, cover is for lost or damaged items only An empty parcel or an item not matching the listing, including undisclosed damage; change of mind is not covered Allegro Ochrona Kupujących covers "Kup teraz" and auction purchases
Your window to act 2 days from Vinted's notice that the parcel should have been delivered (UK help page) 48 hours from pickup or delivery On Allegro Lokalnie, a non-delivery claim becomes possible after 14 days
If you pay another way Not covered: protection applies to "Buy now" purchases The Pakiet Ochronny fee isn't charged; its cover is described for orders sent with Przesyłka OLX Covers "Kup teraz" and auctions; other arrangements are not described

Two consequences for your numbers:

  • On Vinted, price in the buyer fee. Example: a 100 zł listing on vinted.pl costs you about 100 + 5 + 2.90 = 107.90 zł before shipping. The fee varies with item, order value and whether you buy a bundle, so read the checkout total rather than trusting the formula.
  • On OLX, read the listing's Pakiet Ochronny line before you compare prices. Paying outside OLX saves the fee but gives up the cover. OLX's Terms also say consumer-protection rules don't apply between consumers, so buying privately without protection leaves you on your own.

Vinted has announced updated Terms taking effect on 5 October 2026 in Germany and France and on 8 October 2026 in the UK, the US and Poland. Press coverage (Value Added Resource, September 2026) reports that the Buyer Protection fee will be renamed "Vinted fee". Recheck the vinted.pl price list after those dates before relying on the 5% + 2.90 zł formula.

Search the way careless sellers list

Underpriced listings are often badly described ones. Vinted's help page on recommended content says search ranks listings by relevance to the query. It doesn't say more, but it follows that a misspelled brand, an empty brand field or the wrong category can keep an item away from buyers who search properly. Search for those mistakes on purpose. On vinted.pl, try Polish spellings and generic Polish product words next to the brand name. The Vinted-specific tactics are in how to find underpriced items on Vinted.

Buying on one marketplace, selling on another

Part of any price gap between marketplaces is fees. Vinted's price lists show no seller commission. Allegro Lokalnie charges nothing on local listings but 7.9% on "Kup teraz" and auctions (4.9% in Elektronika), per Allegro's fee page. OLX limits free listings by category: private users get 2 free listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs (Annex 3, effective 7 January 2026). So the channel you sell on changes what you can pay.

Rules matter here too. eBay's US User Agreement bans automated means of accessing its services, including "buy-for-me agents" and flows that place orders "without human review", unless eBay gives prior express permission. eBay's separate API License Agreement, which binds developers using eBay's API, bans promoting or engaging in seller arbitrage, such as automatically ordering sold items from other sites. Marketplace arbitrage works through a full example and keeps the two documents apart.

What to look for

Category choice decides how often a find is worth the effort. Best things to resell in Europe ranks categories on factors you can verify: fees, listing limits, authentication rules and shipping. It doesn't rank on sales data nobody publishes. If you'd rather build a niche from your own evidence, how to find a reselling niche shows how to sample listings for two weeks and compare how fast they leave the market and how widely their prices spread.

Offline sourcing: second-hand shops, markets, house clearances

Offline stock has no search box, so your edge is route, timing and the ability to judge an item in your hands. There is also no marketplace buyer protection: once you've paid cash, a missed flaw is yours.

Lumpeks and charity shops

Each lumpeks (Polish second-hand clothing shop, also searched for as "odzież zachodnia") sets its own schedule. If a shop announces a delivery day and cheaper days after it, you are choosing between first pick at full price and a lower price on what other buyers left. Write down the schedule of every shop on your route, log what you find on each visit, and let your hit rate per shop and day decide when you go. Sourcing in Polish lumpeks covers the cycle, route planning and how to price finds for Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie.

A rack checklist that follows what you'll have to disclose when you sell:

  • Brand label present and readable, plus the care label with materials (Vinted lets you select up to 3 materials)
  • Size label matches the measured garment
  • Seams, zips, cuffs, collars and underarms checked in daylight
  • Stains, pilling, holes and repairs found now, because defects must be described in the listing
  • No unbranded or handmade pieces that copy a brand (Vinted's counterfeit ban includes "handmade items that resemble other brands")
  • Not in a category Vinted prohibits, such as worn underwear bottoms

Markets, clearances and private lots

Flea markets and house clearances reward a clear walk-away number. Prices are negotiable and can be quoted for a whole box. Split any lot price into a per-item cost straight away. Example: a box of 12 items for 150 zł is 12.50 zł per item, but if only 4 are worth listing, each keeper really costs 37.50 zł, plus the time to get rid of the other 8.

Decision rule: if you can't sell the weak items in a lot for at least their share of the price, value the lot only on the items you will actually list.

Wholesale and bales: when volume makes sense

A bale swaps the speed problem for a hit-rate problem. You pay for a large, mixed batch of stock and find out afterwards what share of it is sellable.

bale result = (sellable items × expected price) − selling fees − your sorting and listing time − bale cost + what the remainder recovers

Estimate your hit rate before buying a bale by sourcing the same category item by item first, and record how many of the items you pick up are worth listing.

Bulk stock also carries an account risk. Vinted's help page on commercial selling lists signals such as bulk-bought or dropshipped low-value goods, many new or tagged items, and identical or similar items in several colours or sizes. Vinted's rules don't allow individual users to list items intended for commercial sale, and neither Poland nor Germany is on Vinted's official Pro country list (13 Sept 2026). Allegro Lokalnie accepts listings only from regular (private) Allegro accounts; business accounts can buy there but not sell.

Decision rules:

  • If you don't yet know your hit rate in that category, don't buy a bale.
  • If the result only turns positive when you don't count your hours, it is a job, not a margin.
  • If most of your sales channel is a personal Vinted account, a bale of near-identical new items matches several signals Vinted lists for commercial selling.

Are clothing bales worth it? covers estimating the hit rate, sorting time and clearing the remainder.

Speed: why listing age matters for underpriced items

A listing priced well below comparable items is a good deal for every buyer who sees it, not only for you, and it goes to whoever decides and pays first. No marketplace publishes how long underpriced listings last, and we have not measured it, so the chart below shows the shape of the problem rather than real figures.

Listing age vs chance an underpriced item is still available
Chance it is still available
0%25%50%75%100%04812162024Hours since the listing went live
  • Priced well below comparable items
  • Priced near the market
Illustrative shape, not measured data. Neither Vinted, OLX nor Allegro Lokalnie publishes these figures. Only the shape is the point: the underpriced line falls fastest right after listing.Illustrative example, not market data

Recency also affects visibility. Vinted's "Our platform" page lists "how long ago the item was uploaded" among the attributes it uses to rank items, next to price and brand. It does not publish how much weight each one carries.

What the rules say about getting there faster

If you are weighing a monitor, a browser extension or an autobuy bot for Vinted, read the clauses first. Vinted's Terms (UK version from 30 April 2026, with matching clauses in the PL, DE and FR versions) say users must not:

"use any kind of external software tools (including but not limited to: bots, scraping programs, crawling programs, spiders) when registering on the Site and/or when using the Site and/or Services … unless such a use is authorised, offered or in any other way allowed by us"

and must not "data mine, screen scrape, crawl, disassemble, decompile or reverse engineer any part of the Site". Enforcement listed in the Terms runs from a warning and demoted or hidden content to a temporary or permanent block. Press coverage of the October 2026 update for the UK, US and Australia (Value Added Resource, September 2026) reports no change to the automation rules. The clause-by-clause reading, including which tool types each clause covers, is on are Vinted bots allowed?.

For buying specifically, the difference that matters is who presses pay. An autobuy bot completes the purchase for you. Assisted checkout opens the item in your own session and stops before payment, so a human confirms. That is a difference in control and security, not an exemption from any marketplace's terms. Whether a marketplace permits a given tool depends on its own terms, and eBay's US User Agreement, for one, restricts flows that place orders without human review. Autobuy bots vs assisted checkout sets the two side by side.

Speed that stays in your hands:

  1. Narrow your lane. One or two brands in categories you can price from memory. Recognition takes seconds, research takes minutes.
  2. Decide your ceiling before the listing appears. Keep a note of max buy prices per model, so an alert becomes a yes or a no.
  3. Use alerts for your exact filters, and check each marketplace's terms for the tool you pick. New listing alerts on Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie compares native saved searches with third-party options and quotes each marketplace's terms.
  4. Keep payment ready inside the marketplace, so the protection in the table above applies.

Checking demand before you buy

Price tells you what an item might sell for. Demand tells you whether it will sell soon enough to matter. Treat demand as the chance that a comparable item leaves the market within a set window, such as 7 days.

Three signals you can collect by hand:

  • Competition: how many near-identical live listings a buyer can choose from today.
  • Interest: how quickly new comparable listings collect favourites.
  • Exits: how quickly comparable listings disappear.
chance to leave within 7 days ≈ comparable listings that disappeared within 7 days ÷ comparable listings you followed from the day they were listed

Example: you follow 20 comparable listings of one hiking boot model on OLX from the day each goes live. After 7 days, 7 have disappeared. That gives an estimated chance of 7 ÷ 20 = 35% within a week at those prices. If the listings that disappeared were mostly the cheaper ones, the chance at a higher price is lower.

A disappearing listing is not a confirmed sale. It may have sold, been deleted or been reserved off-platform. That's why reva and this blog say an item "left the market" rather than "sold". The reasoning is on the data methodology page.

Decision rules:

  • Many live listings and slow exits: buy only well below fair value, or pass.
  • Few live listings and fast exits: you can pay closer to fair value, because the item turns quickly.
  • No exits at all over two weeks: there are no comps behind any price you'd set. Treat any purchase as speculative.

There is no published benchmark for a "good" exit rate on these marketplaces. Set your own from your cash needs. Example: if you need your money back within a month, write the target as "at least half of comparable listings leave the market within 30 days at my planned price", then test each candidate model against it. How to check resale demand covers the full routine, including seasonal traps and relists that look like new supply.

Checking condition, authenticity and photos

Read the photos as the seller's evidence, not their marketing. Anything they don't show is something you either ask for or price in as a risk.

Photo and seller red flags

  • Stock or catalogue photos instead of the actual item (Vinted's Catalogue Rules require real photos)
  • The same photos on several listings or accounts
  • Many near-identical "new" items from one seller in different sizes, the replica-farm pattern described in the fakes guide linked below
  • No close-up of labels, serial numbers, soles, hardware or stitching on a branded item
  • Condition "Very good" while the photos show pilling, heel wear or scratches
  • A price far below every comparable item, with no reason given
  • A request to pay or talk outside the marketplace

Vinted's Catalogue Rules say counterfeits are "strictly forbidden" and that selling them "could expose sellers to civil and criminal proceedings". If you receive a fake, a counterfeit counts as significantly not as described on Vinted's UK help page, so report it within the claim window rather than trying to resell it. Press coverage of the October 2026 terms reports that the time sellers get to provide authenticity evidence in counterfeit cases grows from 24 to 48 hours. Check the live Terms after the October dates.

Two official services are relevant to resellers. Vinted's is a paid add-on for you as the buyer. eBay's applies when you resell on eBay.

Vinted optional buyer services (price lists, 13 Sept 2026) vinted.pl UK FR / DE
Item Verification (authenticity) 45 zł £10 €10
Electronics Verification 20 zł £5 €5

Vinted says the fee consists of a verification service fee and shipping costs from the seller to the hub. If you use it, add it to your buy cost in the formula above.

eBay authentication when you resell (help pages, 13 Sept 2026) eBay UK, mandatory from eBay.de, mandatory from
Sneakers / trainers £200 €200
Handbags £200 €200
Jewellery £500 €500
Watches £1,500 €1,500
Trading cards £350 not listed on the DE page

On both sites, enrolment is automatic for eligible items and free to the seller. An item that fails authentication is not sent to the buyer; the buyer is refunded and the item goes back to the seller. Below the thresholds, eBay UK lists optional checks (for example £20 for trainers, fashion and handbags up to £199.99), and eBay.de lists similar ones at €20, paid by the buyer. If eBay is where you plan to resell a branded item above those prices, a fake comes back to you instead of being paid for.

Photo red flags by category, replica-seller patterns and what to do after buying a fake are in how to spot fakes and replica listings. Vinted's two paid services are explained step by step in Vinted Item Verification.

The deal scorecard

Put the checks together before you pay. Four questions, each with a clear pass rule:

Check Question Pass rule (set your own thresholds)
Price level Where does the asking price sit against comparable items? Low enough, after buyer fee and shipping, to pass the max buy price check below
Confidence How many close comparables stand behind the estimate? At or above the count you've decided is enough
Demand How likely is a comparable item to leave the market within your window? At or above your own target for how fast cash must come back
Condition Do the photos support the stated condition and authenticity? No unexplained flaws, labels and serials visible
Deal scorecard: one pair of used hiking boots on OLX
Below fast sellPrice levelAsking 95 zł; comparable pairs: fast sell about 110 zł, fair value about 130 zł
HighPrice confidence12 close comparable pairs left the market recently
7 of 20DemandComparable listings that left the market within 7 days
Very goodCondition from photosSoles, laces and inner labels shown; one small scuff photographed
Example values. All four checks pass, so the next step is the max buy price below.Illustrative example, not market data

Setting buying rules and a max buy price

A buying rule is a decision you make once, when you're calm, so you don't have to make it under time pressure. The most important rule is the max buy price: the highest price at which the item still clears both your profit floor and your ROI floor.

The maximum buy price calculator computes it like this:

left after costs = expected sale price − (sale price × marketplace fee % + fixed fee per order) − shipping you pay − cleaning, repair, packaging max buy (profit floor) = left after costs − minimum profit you accept max buy (ROI floor) = left after costs ÷ (1 + minimum ROI you accept) pay no more than = the lower of the two

The two floors protect you in different places. The profit floor protects cheap items, where a good ROI can still mean a few złoty for an hour of work. The ROI floor protects expensive items, where a fixed profit can be a thin return on a lot of cash.

None of these floors is a standard. Set them from your own numbers: what an hour of your time is worth, how much cash you have, and how often a purchase turns out worse than you expected.

The rules to write down

Rule What it filters How to set it
Maximum price Overpaying The max buy formula above, per model or category
Minimum profit after fees Tiny wins that cost hours Your hourly value × the time one item takes to buy, list and ship
Categories, brands and sizes Items you can't price quickly Only what you have comps for; drop sizes that sit unsold
Condition and photos Surprise flaws and claim risk The photo checklist above; pass on missing label or sole photos
Minimum price confidence Estimates built on thin evidence A minimum number of close comparables you trust

Rule templates for three kinds of reseller, and how rules become alerts while you keep control of each purchase, are in how to set buying rules.

Negotiating as a buyer

Negotiation only works when you already know your ceiling. Without one, a friendly seller sets your price.

A message pattern you can use on any of the three marketplaces:

  1. Ask one factual question first. For example, the measurements or whether a flaw in photo 3 is a stain or a shadow. It shows you're a real buyer and often surfaces a reason for a lower price.
  2. Offer once, with a reason. Example: "Would you take 110 zł? The heel wear in the last photo means I'll need to repair it." Start below your ceiling, but not so far below that the seller stops replying.
  3. Don't go above your ceiling, and say so politely. Passing costs you one item; paying over your ceiling costs you the margin you bought it for.

Platform points that change the maths:

  • Vinted: the price list says the Buyer Protection fee varies with order type, single item or bundle. Asking a seller for a bundle of several items can change both the fee and the per-item cost, so compare checkout totals, not listing prices.
  • OLX: the Terms require a listing to say whether it is a single item, multiple units or a set. Confirm what's included before you offer. Paying outside OLX delivery means no Pakiet Ochronny.
  • Allegro Lokalnie: protection covers "Kup teraz" and auction purchases, so agree a price that the seller can put through those rather than a side payment.
  • Offline: make your offer for the box, then check it per keeper item, as in the lot example above.

How to evaluate a resale deal ends with a short buyer-side negotiation section you can keep open while you message sellers.

Building a sourcing routine

A routine turns single finds into numbers you can review. Example: a week built around one online and one offline channel could look like this:

A weekly sourcing routine
  1. 1Set the week's laneTwo or three models or categories, with a max buy price for each
  2. 2Check alerts dailyShort sessions at fixed times; act only on items inside your rules
  3. 3One offline runYour best shop or market on its best day for your hit rate
  4. 4Score before payingPrice level, confidence, demand and condition, then the ceiling
  5. 5Log every purchaseBuy cost, channel, date bought, date listed and the date it left
  6. 6Review weeklyDrop the channel or category with the lowest profit per hour
An example routine. Adjust the number of sessions to the hours you actually have.

What to log for every item, so that your own targets come from your own history:

  • Channel and marketplace where you bought it
  • Listing price, buyer fee, inbound shipping and any verification cost
  • Hours spent on it: travel, cleaning, photos, listing, shipping
  • Date bought, date listed and date sold or delisted
  • Sale price and selling fees
  • Whether the item matched the listing on arrival

After a month, that log answers the questions no public source answers for you: your hit rate per channel, your time to sell per category, and your real profit per hour. Use them to reset the floors in your buying rules.

Decision rules for the weekly review:

  • If a channel's profit per hour is lowest two weeks in a row, cut it before adding another.
  • If more than one purchase in a batch arrived worse than its photos, tighten the condition rule for that category.
  • If items from one category sit unsold past the time you planned for, lower the max buy price for that category or drop it.

Tax and reporting in Poland as volume grows

Buying items in order to resell them is not the same as clearing out your own wardrobe. Poland's Ministry of Finance says an occasional sale of a private item held for more than six months (counted from the end of the month you bought it) is not taxed, while sales made as a business are taxable however long you held the item. biznes.gov.pl defines business activity as organised, continuous and profit-oriented activity in your own name. In our reading, which is not an official ruling, regular buying to resell usually points that way. Unregistered activity (działalność nierejestrowana) is capped at 10,813.50 zł of revenue per quarter from 1 January 2026; above that you must register in CEIDG within 7 days.

Reporting is a separate matter. Under DAC7, platforms report sellers with at least 30 sales or more than the equivalent of €2,000 paid out in a calendar year. The Ministry of Finance says DAC7 creates no new tax and sellers don't file anything under it. The purchase log above is what a tax adviser will ask for. This is general information, not tax advice: check your own situation with a tax adviser, and see reselling without a registered business in Poland for the detail.

Frequently asked questions

Where do resellers get their stock?
Mostly from four places. First, other people's listings on marketplaces such as Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie, bought one at a time. Second, second-hand shops, flea markets and house clearances. Third, lots and bundles from private sellers clearing out. Fourth, bales or wholesale bought by the kilo or the piece. Each channel trades cash, time and risk differently. Many resellers start with one online and one offline channel, keep a record of what each purchase earned, and drop the channel that performs worse.
Is online or offline sourcing better?
Neither wins in general. Online sourcing lets you compare an item with similar listings before you pay, and it comes with marketplace buyer protection when you pay through the platform. But underpriced listings go fast, and a buyer fee or shipping is added to the price. Offline sourcing has no platform protection and depends on your route and timing. In return you can handle the item and negotiate face to face. Track profit per hour for each channel over a month and let those numbers decide.
How much should I pay for an item I want to resell?
Work backwards from a conservative resale price. Subtract the selling fee, any shipping you pay and costs such as cleaning. Then take the lower of two results: that amount minus your minimum profit, or that amount divided by one plus your minimum ROI. The buyer fee and inbound shipping come out of that ceiling, so the listing price must sit lower still. Recalculate if you change where you plan to resell, because a selling fee lowers the ceiling. Set both floors from your own costs and goals.
How do I avoid buying fakes?
Be suspicious of prices far below comparable items, stock or reused photos, missing labels and serials, and sellers with many near-identical listings. Before paying, ask for a photo the listing lacks, such as the inner label or serial, and pass if the seller avoids it. Pay through the marketplace so its buyer protection applies: Vinted's UK help page counts a counterfeit as significantly not as described. On vinted.pl you can add the optional Item Verification, listed at 45 zł (September 2026), and count it in your buy cost.
