Sourcing in Polish Second-Hand Shops (Lumpeks)

How second-hand clothing shops in Poland work, and how resellers use their weekly cycle.

Key takeaways
  • Every lumpeks runs its own week: delivery day means first pick at full price, later days mean lower prices on what is left. Choose the day by what you resell, not by habit.
  • On a price-by-weight day, cost per item is the price per kilo times the garment's weight, so light, high-value pieces get cheaper and heavy coats and jeans get dearer.
  • Check each garment on the rack against what Vinted makes you disclose: condition, defects, up to 3 materials and real photos. A missed flaw becomes a not-as-described claim later.
  • Price a find from comparable online listings before you pay for it. The same jacket leaves you less on Allegro Lokalnie 'Kup teraz' (7.9% fee) than on Vinted, which lists no seller commission.
  • Buying clothes in order to resell them is not the same as selling your own wardrobe. Poland's tax rules and Vinted's commercial-selling signals both treat it differently.

Lumpeks reselling works when you plan around each shop's weekly cycle, check every garment against what you must disclose when you list it, and price the find from comparable online listings before you pay. Delivery day gives you first pick at full price. Discount days lower your cost on what other buyers passed over.

Below: the weekly cycle, routes, a rack checklist tied to Vinted's rules, demand tests and pricing for three marketplaces. For every sourcing channel side by side, see the product sourcing guide. Marketplace facts were checked on 13 September 2026, and other numbers are examples.

What a lumpeks is and how stock arrives

A lumpeks, also called a ciuchland or second hand, is a Polish shop selling used clothing, often under a sign reading "odzież używana" or "odzież zachodnia". New stock arrives in deliveries ("dostawa"), which is why SecondHandy, a Polish shop directory, lists delivery days next to opening hours.

Stock is also traded in grades. SecondHandy's wholesale enquiry form lists "Cream", "I Gatunek", "II Gatunek" and "Niesort (mix)", so two shops on one street can stock very different racks.

Decision rule: if a shop's racks look mostly like chain-store basics after three visits, keep it for discount days only, whatever the reason behind its stock.

Delivery days vs discount days

Each shop sets its own pricing week, and no public source records a standard one. Some shops price by weight instead of per item, and SecondHandy's map has a filter for them ("ceny na wagę"). Read the sign on the door or ask at the till, and write the schedule down.

One example shop's week: price as a share of the delivery-day price
Mon (delivery)100%
Tue100%
Wed70%
Thu50%
Fri30%
Sat20%

  • If you resell a short list of specific brands, go on delivery day, because scarce pieces go to the first buyers.
  • If you resell cheaper basics in volume, go on the last discount days.
  • If it's a weight day, work out the cost per item before you fill the basket.
cost per item on a weight day = price per kg × garment weight in kg

Example: at 60 zł per kg, a silk blouse weighing 0.15 kg costs 9 zł, while a wool coat weighing 1.5 kg costs 90 zł. Weight days make light, valuable pieces cheap and heavy ones expensive, whatever their brand.

Finding the right shops and routes

Start with a map. SecondHandy says it covers more than 3,000 second-hand shops, vintage boutiques and consignment shops, with opening hours, delivery days and reviews. That count is the directory's own, not ours, so confirm a delivery day in person before building a route on it. Then log every visit:

Shop (example) Day type Spent Items listed Hours incl. travel Resale profit so far
Shop A Delivery day 180 zł 6 2.5 390 zł
Shop B 70% off day 60 zł 5 2 170 zł
profit per hour per shop = resale profit from that shop's items ÷ hours spent on those visits

Here Shop A earns 156 zł per hour and Shop B 85 zł. After four visits to each, drop the lowest earner and try a new shop in its place.

Rack checklist: labels, materials, flaws

What you note on the rack becomes your listing. Vinted's Catalogue Rules require a condition, described defects and real photos, with up to 3 materials. Vinted counts wrong colour, incorrect size, undisclosed damage and different main materials as significantly not as described. OLX's Pakiet Ochronny (Annex 8) covers undisclosed damage and a "new" item showing wear.

  • Brand label readable, and the care label shows the materials, so you can fill in materials honestly
  • Size label checked against a quick measurement: armpit to armpit, length, inside leg
  • Seams, zips, cuffs, collar, underarms and hem checked in good light
  • Stains, pilling, holes, repairs and odour noted now, because each one must go into the description
  • No unbranded or handmade piece copying a brand: Vinted bans "handmade items that resemble other brands"
  • Not in a banned category: worn underwear bottoms and shapewear, fur, reptile skin
  • Worn bras, swimwear, tights and socks only if you will wash them and say they were worn
  • Several identical items in different sizes: think twice before buying them all (see the demand section)

Vinted's updated Terms take effect on 8 October 2026 in Poland (5 October in Germany and France). Press coverage (Value Added Resource, September 2026) reports that sellers get 48 hours instead of 24 to provide authenticity evidence. Re-read the rules after those dates.

Brands and categories to look for (and how to verify demand)

No marketplace publishes which brands sell best, and we have not measured it, so build your list from evidence. Pick three to five candidates you often see on the racks and follow comparable Vinted listings. How to check resale demand before you buy has the full routine.

share leaving within 14 days = comparable listings that disappeared within 14 days ÷ comparable listings you followed from day one

Example: of 20 fleece listings you follow for one outdoor brand, nine disappear within 14 days, a 45% share. Set your own minimum from how fast you need your cash back. A disappeared listing may have been deleted, not sold.

Two traps specific to shop stock:

  • Vintage pieces rarely have exact comparables. Match on label era, material and measurements, as in how to price vintage clothing.
  • Volume can look commercial. Vinted's commercial-selling signals include many new or tagged items, identical items in several colours or sizes, and bulk-bought low-value goods. Before buying a whole sack, read are clothing bales worth it?.

Lumpeks reselling maths: pricing finds for Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie

Price the find while it's on the hanger: look up comparable listings, estimate fair value and compare it with the tag price plus cleaning. When comparables are thin, Vinted's pricing help page gives a sanity check: 40–60% of retail for "Very good" and 20–40% for "Good".

For a walk-away tag price per category, use the maximum buy price calculator. For a yes-or-no at the rail, how to evaluate a resale deal in 60 seconds has a one-page checklist.

Tax note: buying to resell is not selling private items

Poland's Ministry of Finance says an occasional sale of a private item held over six months is not taxed, but business sales are taxable however long you held the item. biznes.gov.pl defines business activity as organised, continuous and profit-oriented. In our reading (not an official ruling), regular buying to resell usually fits that.

Unregistered activity (działalność nierejestrowana) is capped at 10,813.50 zł of revenue per quarter from 1 January 2026. Above the cap you must register in CEIDG within 7 days. Under DAC7, platforms report sellers with at least 30 sales or over €2,000 paid out in a calendar year. This is general information, not tax advice. See reselling without a registered business in Poland and reselling in Poland, and check your situation with a tax adviser.

Frequently asked questions

What does lumpeks mean?
Lumpeks (plural lumpeksy) is the everyday Polish word for a second-hand clothing shop, also called a ciuchland or simply second hand. Signs often say odzież używana (used clothing) or odzież zachodnia (Western clothing). For a reseller it is mostly a search term: type it with your city name into a map or shop directory to find shops and their delivery days.
Which day is best to shop at a lumpeks?
No single day wins, because every shop sets its own cycle and the right day depends on what you resell. Delivery day means first pick at full price. Discount days mean a lower cost on what others left. Test both: visit one shop four times on each kind of day, log spend, items listed and hours, and keep the day with the higher profit per hour.
Is it legal to resell lumpeks clothes?
Reselling second-hand clothes is ordinary trade, but rules come with it. Vinted bans counterfeits, including handmade copies of brands, and its standard accounts are for personal selling; Vinted Pro was not open to Polish businesses in September 2026. gov.pl treats business sales as taxable however long you held the item. This is general information, not tax or legal advice: check your case with an adviser.
How do I test which lumpeks finds sell on Vinted?
Choose three to five brands or garment types common on your racks. For each, follow about 20 comparable Vinted listings from the day they go live and note which disappear within 14 days and at what price. Then buy a small test batch, list it at fair value and log the days to sell. Not every disappeared listing is a sale, so treat the counts as estimates.
