How to Start Reselling in Europe

From the first flip to a repeatable resale business, built on marketplace facts rather than hype.

Six steps of the resale loop, from sourcing an item to getting paid, next to a table of European marketplaces
Key takeaways
  • Who pays the fee decides your margin. Vinted charges the buyer (usually 5% + 2.90 zł in Poland), Allegro Lokalnie charges the seller 7.9% on buy-now sales and 0 zł on local listings, and eBay.pl charges private sellers 11% (all checked 13 Sept 2026).
  • Set a maximum buy price before you pay: expected sale price minus seller fees, shipping you pay, packaging and travel, and the minimum profit you accept. Anything you pay as a buyer, such as Vinted's Buyer Protection fee, counts against it.
  • Buying to resell is not the same as clearing out your wardrobe. Vinted's standard accounts are personal-use only, and Poland's unregistered-activity route is capped at 10,813.50 zł of revenue per quarter in 2026.
  • DAC7 reporting starts at 30 sales or more than €2,000 in a calendar year on Vinted and Allegro (Allegro counts Allegro and Allegro Lokalnie accounts together). Being reported is not a tax.
  • Automation follows each marketplace's terms: Vinted bans unauthorised bots and bulk delete-and-relist, OLX treats a relist within 14 days as a duplicate in free and limited categories, and Depop explicitly allows crosslisting tools.

To start reselling, pick one marketplace and one category, decide whether you are selling your own things or buying to resell, and set a maximum buy price before you spend anything. Then run a small batch through the whole loop (source, price, list, sell, ship, get paid) and record what each item really left you after fees and costs. The part most advice on how to start reselling skips is that in Europe, the rules that set your profit change at the border: Vinted charges the buyer rather than the seller, eBay charges UK-based private sellers no final value fee (outside Motors) but takes 11% from private sellers on eBay.pl, and Allegro Lokalnie takes 7.9% on buy-now sales and nothing on local listings.

Each section below gives a decision rule, the official rule behind it (read on 13 September 2026) and the page that covers it in depth. Worked examples use złoty and are labelled as examples, not market data.

What reselling is and how resellers make money

Reselling means buying items so you can sell them for more than they cost you once every expense is paid. One formula covers every flip:

profit per item = sale price − seller fees − shipping you pay − packaging and travel − purchase price

The margin in that formula can only come from three places:

Where the margin comes from What it looks like The skill it needs
Buying below market A listing priced well under similar items, a second-hand shop (lumpeks) rail, a house clearance Knowing prices in a narrow category
Moving the item to better buyers Bought for local pickup on OLX, sold shipped on Vinted or eBay Knowing where each category's buyers are and what each fee model costs
Presenting it better Cleaned, measured, photographed and filed in the right category Listing well, with defects disclosed honestly

Decision rule: if you can't say which of the three gaps an item exploits, don't buy it. "It looked cheap" is not a gap.

Selling your own things and buying to resell are different activities, and marketplaces and tax offices treat them differently. Vinted's Catalogue Rules say: "We do not allow our individual users to list any items which are intended to be sold for commercial purposes." Poland's biznes.gov.pl describes business activity as organised, continuous, profit-oriented activity in your own name. The account and tax section below covers what follows.

With a few hundred złoty, starting to resell on a small budget plans the first flips around options with no selling fee: Vinted's buyer-paid model, 0 zł local listings on Allegro Lokalnie, no final value fee for UK-based private sellers on eBay.co.uk, and free selling within Germany for EEA-resident private sellers on eBay.de.

The resale loop: source, price, list, sell, ship, get paid

Every item passes through the same six steps, and a beginner's money usually leaks at one of them.

The resale loop
  1. 1SourceFind an item below where similar ones leave the market, and check its condition from the photos
  2. 2PriceCollect comparable items and set a range: fast sell, fair value, max profit
  3. 3ListReal photos, honest condition, correct category and title
  4. 4SellAnswer questions, and accept or counter offers against a floor you set beforehand
  5. 5ShipSend within the marketplace's deadline, or the order can be cancelled
  6. 6Get paidOn Vinted (UK help) and OLX, money is released when the buyer confirms or the claim window closes
Each step has its own section below, and its own page for depth.

Where the loop leaks money, and the rule that plugs each leak:

Step Typical leak Rule or fix
Source Paying close to the resale price Calculate a maximum buy price before you message the seller
Price Pricing from what you paid Price from comparable items, not from your cost
List Condition graded up Vinted counts undisclosed damage, wrong size and different main materials as "significantly not as described" (UK help pages)
Sell Accepting an offer below break-even Write your floor down before the first message arrives
Ship Missing the deadline Vinted cancels an order not shipped within 5 business days (UK, PL, FR and DE help pages). On OLX delivery, a parcel not handed to the carrier within 3 working days of accepting the sale triggers a buyer refund
Get paid Cash stuck while a claim window runs Vinted completes an order 2 days after its delivery notice if the buyer does nothing (UK help). OLX orders the payout 48 hours after pickup when no Pakiet Ochronny claim is filed

Decision rule: for your first ten items (an example batch size), note the date each one reaches each step. Fix the step where items sit longest first.

Choosing marketplaces in Europe: Vinted, OLX, Allegro Lokalnie, eBay and specialists

Pick a marketplace on three things: whether your category has buyers there, who pays the fee, and which account rules apply to you. The table shows each fee model for a private seller.

Who pays what when a private seller sells
What the seller paysWhat the buyer pays on top
Vinted (PL, UK, FR, DE)No seller commission. Optional Bump and Showcase, priced at checkoutBuyer Protection fee: usually 5% + 2.90 zł (PL), 5% + €0.70 (FR, DE), 3–8% + £0.30–0.80 (UK)

Vinted

On Vinted the buyer pays the Buyer Protection fee and, according to Vinted's UK help page, chooses and pays for shipping, so your list price is close to what you receive. The catch is the account. A standard account is for personal use, and Vinted Pro was offered in only eight countries on 13 September 2026 (Italy, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium and the UK). The Vinted reseller guide covers fees by country, Pro, listing rules, DAC7 and what the Terms say about tools.

OLX.pl

OLX works on listing limits, not commission. Under Annex 3 (effective 7 January 2026), a free limit renews 30 days after the last listing counted in it, and limits vary sharply by category: 2 private listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs, and 1 per 60 days for furniture. Listings run for 30 days. In free and limited categories, ending a listing and adding the same item again within 14 days counts as a duplicate. Reselling on OLX.pl works through the limits, packages and promotions from the Terms and annexes. OLX refresh vs relist answers the narrow question of why ending and relisting doesn't give you a free refresh.

Allegro Lokalnie and allegro.pl

Allegro Lokalnie's fee is charged only if the buyer pays within 72 hours, or fills in the delivery form for cash on delivery or collection, and it is refunded if you refund the buyer through Allegro. The rule most sellers miss: only regular (private) accounts can list on Lokalnie. Business accounts can buy there but not sell. Selling on Allegro Lokalnie covers that rule, the fee trigger and the Smart! parcel pool. allegro.pl itself charges category commissions (Moda, for example, up to 11.5% net), and Allegro vs Allegro Lokalnie frames that choice around account type and consumer returns.

eBay UK, DE and PL

eBay's answer changes at the border. UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee outside Motors, and the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee instead. On eBay.de, private sellers resident in the EEA, Poland included, sell free within Germany and pay a 5% international fee on delivery outside Germany. eBay.pl private sellers pay 11%. Vinted vs eBay for European resellers sets these side by side by country and seller type. eBay vs Allegro compares the two on their fee pages for a seller based in Poland.

Specialists

Specialist platforms price trust into the fee. Vestiaire Collective charges the seller a 12% band plus processing; Vinted vs Vestiaire Collective sets that against Vinted's buyer-paid fee and optional Item Verification (45 zł in Poland). Depop charges no selling fee to UK, US and Australian sellers but 10% on sales in other currencies, and its Terms explicitly allow third-party crosslisting tools. Vinted vs Depop explains why that rules difference changes how you run the two. For trainers, the best place to sell sneakers in Europe works from eBay's reduced trainer fee rates and authentication thresholds.

A starting decision

Your situation Start by comparing Why
Clothes, based in Poland Vinted and Allegro Lokalnie No seller commission on Vinted; 0 zł local listings on Lokalnie, 7.9% if sold with Kup teraz
Electronics or bulky items, local buyers OLX and Allegro Lokalnie OLX's free limit is 2 private listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs; Lokalnie charges 0 zł on local listings and 4.9% on Elektronika buy-now sales
Based in the UK, broad categories eBay.co.uk and Vinted UK No seller commission on Vinted; no final value fee for UK-based private sellers on eBay (Motors excluded, 35p per listing after 300 a month)
Designer items Vinted and Vestiaire Collective Buyer-paid fee plus optional Item Verification against a 12% seller commission band
Based in Poland, buyers in Germany eBay.de Free for EEA-resident private sellers when delivery is within Germany; 5% when it isn't

For clothing in Poland, where to sell used clothes in Poland compares Vinted, OLX and Allegro Lokalnie on shipping and protection. OLX vs Vinted covers every category, not just fashion, and Allegro Lokalnie vs OLX sets commission-on-sale against the quota model, with claim windows from both sets of terms. Sourcing: where items worth reselling come from

Your profit is fixed the moment you pay. A good source is not simply a cheap one: it gives you items priced clearly below where comparable items in the same condition stop being available.

Channel What it's good for What to check before paying
Underpriced listings on Vinted, OLX, Allegro Lokalnie Brands and models you already know Condition from the photos; the seller's description of defects
Local pickup listings on OLX or Allegro Lokalnie Bulky items and electronics where shipping deters buyers Travel cost and time; test electronics on the spot
Lumpeks (second-hand shops) Clothing at low unit cost Labels, fabric, flaws; sorting time
Clothing bales and lots Volume at a known total price Share of unsellable items; your time per item
Your own home The first flips, with no buying risk In Poland, private items held over six months are taxed differently from bought stock (see tax basics below)
Buyback services A price floor for iPhones Swappie buys iPhones from consumers in Poland and 15 other European countries and lets you lock a quote for 14 days

Before you buy anything, turn your price research into a ceiling:

maximum buy price = expected sale price − seller fees − shipping you pay − packaging and travel − minimum profit you accept

The ceiling applies to everything you pay to own the item, not only the listed price. When you source on Vinted, you are the buyer, so the Buyer Protection fee and the shipping you choose count against it.

If it is a branded piece where fakes are common and you buy it on Vinted, the optional Item Verification (45 zł in Poland, £10 in the UK, €10 in France and Germany) goes into your costs too. That alone lowers the ceiling in the example to 54.20 zł.

  • The item is in a category I can price from memory or from comparable items I've written down
  • What I'll pay in total, including any buyer fee, is at or below my maximum buy price
  • I checked the photos for damage, wear and missing parts
  • I know which marketplace I'll sell it on and what that marketplace charges the seller
  • I've added travel, packaging and any verification cost
  • I can store and ship it within the marketplace's deadline

The full method, including European channels, bales and a buy decision based on demand, price level and confidence, is in the product sourcing guide.

Pricing used items: comps, condition and price levels

Price from evidence, not from what you paid. You need two kinds. Comparable items that recently left the market show roughly where buyers stopped looking. Live asking prices show your competition, and they tend to sit higher, because cheaper listings tend to go first. A listing that disappears may have sold, been deleted or been reserved off-platform, so treat its last price as an estimate.

Turn that evidence into five levels rather than one number:

Level How it is set
Fast sell Near the cheapest quarter of comparable asking prices
Balanced Between fast sell and fair value
Fair value The median of comparable items that left the market
Market ask Where comparable items are currently offered
Max profit The top of the realistic range, never above fair value × 1.25

Example: you note seven comparable jackets that left the market at 160, 180, 190, 200, 210, 220 and 260 zł. The median, and so the fair value, is 200 zł. Max profit can't go above 200 × 1.25 = 250 zł. If you need the cash this week, list near fast sell. If identical jackets are rare and you're in no hurry, list nearer market ask.

Condition is a claim you make to the buyer. Vinted's UK help pages count undisclosed damage, wrong colour, incorrect size and different main materials as significantly not as described, but not minor differences such as lighting. OLX's Pakiet Ochronny covers an item that doesn't match the listing, including a "new" item showing wear (Annex 8). Grading an item up to reach a higher price mostly buys you a claim.

Decision rules:

  • If asking prices sit far above recent exits, price from the exits.
  • If there are asks but almost no exits, lower your confidence and lean towards fast sell.
  • Set your lowest acceptable offer before you list, and never below your break-even after fees.

On Vinted, the buyer sees your price plus the fee. Example: a 200 zł item on vinted.pl carries a Buyer Protection fee of usually 5% + 2.90 zł, so 12.90 zł, before shipping.

The resale pricing guide covers how many comps you need, how confidence works, markdown steps, bundles and category differences.

Fees, hidden costs and real profit per item

Here is the jacket from the sourcing example, bought for 80 zł on OLX with local pickup and sold for 200 zł with Kup teraz on Allegro Lokalnie. The example assumes the buyer pays shipping.

Where a 200 zł jacket sale goes (Allegro Lokalnie, Kup teraz)
Sale price200 zł
  • Purchase price (OLX, local pickup)80 zł
  • Allegro Lokalnie fee, 7.9% of item value15.8 zł
  • Packaging5 zł
  • Travel to collect the jacket10 zł
  • Profit89.2 zł
Example: one jacket. The 7.9% rate is from Allegro's Lokalnie fee page, checked 13 Sept 2026; every other number is illustrative.Illustrative example, not market data

The same jacket at the same 200 zł price nets a different amount elsewhere:

  • Allegro Lokalnie, local listing (collection): the sale fee is 0 zł and there is no packaging, so 110 zł remains. The trade-off is fewer buyers, since each one has to come to you.
  • Vinted Poland: no seller commission, so with the same packaging and travel, 105 zł remains. The buyer pays about 12.90 zł in Buyer Protection on top, plus shipping. That total, not your price, is what they compare against other listings.
  • eBay.pl, private seller: 11% of the total sale (22 zł) plus 1.35 zł per order, plus a regulatory operating fee. eBay.pl's help page gives that fee as 0.43% (0.86 zł), while its Strefa Sprzedawcy page says 0.35% plus VAT. At the help page rate, about 80.79 zł remains. eBay's percentage applies to the total sale, so check on the fee page what your total includes.

The costs beginners leave out:

  • Travel to collect items and to the drop-off point
  • Packaging, tape and labels for every shipped order
  • Return shipping when an OLX Pakiet Ochronny claim is accepted: the buyer returns the item at the seller's cost
  • Currency conversion on a Vinted purchase: 1.2% or 3% of the item price, charged by the payment processor where the service is offered (UK Terms)
  • eBay's international fee: 3% for a UK private seller when delivery is outside the UK, 5% on eBay.de when delivery is outside Germany
  • Paid promotions: OLX refreshes and highlights, Vinted Bump and Showcase (prices shown only when you buy them)
  • Unsold stock: an item still listed after two markdowns (example) is cash you can't use to buy the next one

Decision rule: if an item's profit only stays positive when you leave out travel and packaging, it isn't profitable.

The fee maths for each marketplace in zł, euros and pounds, with break-even and ROI, is in how to calculate reselling profit.

Private seller or business: account rules and tax basics

Two separate questions decide how you may sell: what the marketplace's account rules allow, and what your country's tax rules require. Answering one doesn't answer the other.

Marketplace Private or regular account Business account Worth knowing
Vinted Personal use only. Listing items intended for commercial selling is not allowed Vinted Pro, in 8 countries on 13 Sept 2026, not Poland or Germany Vinted lists signals such as many new or tagged items and identical items in several sizes or colours. Completed orders and revenue are also signals, but the pages read give no threshold
OLX.pl Private listing limits per category Business User status brings business limits, which are 0 in many categories, so every listing in those categories is paid The private or business declaration covers your whole activity on OLX
Allegro and Allegro Lokalnie Regular account for private individuals, and the only type that can list on Lokalnie For entrepreneurs; can buy on Lokalnie but not sell there Adding company details to a regular account doesn't turn it into a business account
eBay.co.uk No final value fee for UK-based private sellers (not Motors) Business fees, for example 11.9% plus a per-order fee in Clothes, Shoes & Accessories Listings that sell after you switch to business pay business fees

In the UK, Vinted says a Pro account is a legal requirement for traders under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Private vs business seller compares how Vinted, OLX, Allegro and eBay define a business seller, and what changes for fees and return rights.

Tax basics in Poland

This is general information from official Polish government pages, not tax advice. Confirm your situation with a tax adviser or your tax office.

  • Private items: an occasional sale of a private item held more than six months, counted from the end of the month you bought it, is not subject to income tax. Sold sooner, it is taxable and goes on PIT-36 (podatki.gov.pl).
  • Business sales: items sold as a business are taxable however long you held them.
  • Unregistered activity (działalność nierejestrowana): allowed while revenue stays at or below 225% of the minimum wage in every quarter. From 1 January 2026 that is 10,813.50 zł per quarter. It requires no business activity in the previous 60 months. If you exceed the limit, you register in CEIDG within 7 days (biznes.gov.pl).
  • Obligations still apply: a simplified sales record, an annual PIT-36, and consumer rights, including the 14-day withdrawal right for distance sales. The same page notes that the route has been restricted for foreigners since 1 June 2025.

Whether buying to resell makes you a business, and whether unregistered activity fits your situation, is covered in can you resell in Poland without registering a business?, built only on gov.pl and podatki.gov.pl sources.

Selling from the UK? This guide has no UK tax source. Vinted's UK reporting page covers what it sends to HMRC; what you owe is a question for a tax adviser.

DAC7: what platforms report

  • Threshold: a platform reports you if you make at least 30 sales or receive more than €2,000 in a calendar year (Ministry of Finance, Vinted's DAC7 pages).
  • No new tax: DAC7 creates no tax, and sellers file no DAC7 report themselves, although platforms may ask for identification data. Being reported doesn't automatically mean an audit.
  • Allegro: counts all of a seller's accounts across Allegro and Allegro Lokalnie together, and reports by 31 January of the following year.
  • Missing data: OLX withholds payouts if you don't give the required DAC7 data within 60 days after at least 2 reminders. Vinted blocks selling and Wallet access until the form is submitted (FR, DE and PL pages).

For an English speaker selling in Poland, reselling in Poland combines the OLX, Allegro, Vinted PL and gov.pl rules in one guide. For Germany, the Germany reselling guide does the same for Kleinanzeigen, Vinted DE and eBay.de.

Shipping, returns and not-as-described claims

Deadlines and claim windows decide when your money arrives and when it can be taken back.

Marketplace Your shipping deadline Buyer's claim window Returns
Vinted, private seller 5 business days, then automatic cancellation (UK, PL, FR, DE help) 2 days from Vinted's delivery notice (UK help) No change-of-mind return; if a return is agreed, the buyer pays return shipping unless you offer to (UK help)
OLX with OLX delivery Confirm the sale within 72 hours and hand the parcel over within 3 working days, or the buyer is refunded 48 hours from pickup or delivery An accepted Pakiet Ochronny claim means a return at your cost. Change of mind is not covered
Allegro Lokalnie Not stated in the pages read A non-delivery claim under Allegro Ochrona Kupujących is possible after 14 days Not stated in the pages read
eBay.co.uk and eBay.de Not captured Not as described: 30 days from delivery, or the seller's return window if longer Private sellers who don't accept returns are still bound to deliver the item as described

What protects you against a claim:

  • Photograph every defect, and put the worst one in the first few photos
  • State size, measurements and main material exactly as the label and tape measure show
  • Keep receipts and original photos for branded items before you list them
  • Pack so the item arrives in the condition you described
  • Use the marketplace's own shipping and messaging, so the claim process covers you
  • On Vinted, where you choose which carriers to enable (UK help), enable only those whose drop-off points you can reach inside the 5-business-day deadline

On Vinted, press coverage of the October 2026 Terms reports that sellers will get 48 hours instead of 24 to provide authenticity evidence in a counterfeit claim. Keep receipts before a claim arrives, not after.

The seller-side timeline on OLX, from Terms §11.7–11.8 and Annex 8 (72 hours to confirm, 3 working days to ship, 48 hours for a claim, 120 hours for you to respond), is set out step by step in OLX delivery and Pakiet Ochronny for sellers.

Scams follow the same money flow. Under OLX's Terms, OLX orders the payout itself: when the buyer confirms receipt, or 48 hours after pickup if no claim is filed. A "payment waiting" message that sends you to a link outside the app doesn't match that flow, so check the order inside OLX before you do anything. OLX and Allegro Lokalnie scams that target sellers explains the common patterns.

Tools and automation: what helps and what breaks marketplace rules

A spreadsheet or a profit calculator works outside your marketplace account and touches no marketplace's terms. Tools that act inside the marketplace do, and each writes its own rules:

Marketplace What its terms say about automation Crosslisting
Vinted No "external software tools (including… bots, scraping programs, crawling programs, spiders)" unless Vinted authorises them; no screen scraping; no deleting and re-listing "the same Item multiple times or multiple Items in bulk"; no unsolicited messages to 5 or more users Not named; judged by the same clauses
eBay (US User Agreement, effective 28 June 2026 for existing users) No robots, scrapers or automated means, including "buy-for-me agents, LLM-driven bots, or any end-to-end flow that attempts to place orders without human review", without eBay's prior express permission. Not named. Apps built on eBay's official APIs are bound by its API License Agreement
Depop (Terms effective 2 Sept 2026) No bots or other third-party software on the service Explicitly allowed through third-party crosslisting platforms, if you remove a sold item promptly and take responsibility for double sales
OLX.pl (Terms effective 27 April 2026) No explicit bot or scraping clause was found in a text search of the Terms. That is not permission. Reviews that look automated may be removed, and duplicates within 14 days are banned in free and limited categories Not named
Allegro The current Terms page could not be read for this guide, so its automation rules are not stated here Not checked
Kleinanzeigen No crawlers, spiders, scrapers or other automated mechanisms without express written consent (Terms read through a summarizer, medium confidence) Not named

Decision rule: if a tool acts in your marketplace account without you pressing the button, and the marketplace hasn't authorised it, that marketplace's terms cover it. Vinted's enforcement options include hiding content, restricting features and temporary or permanent blocks, so a tool that saves you ten minutes a day (example) can cost you the account.

reva doesn't support eBay, Depop or Vestiaire. The pricing and profit methods above work the same on those platforms by hand.

Scaling from side hustle to business

Scaling stalls at one bottleneck at a time, and several of those limits are written into marketplace rules:

Bottleneck What you notice Rule or number that caps it
Cash Money sits in unsold stock while good buys go past Your own rule: track items sold ÷ (items at the start + items added) each month and set your own target from your first months
Listing quota Free listings run out mid-month eBay.co.uk private: 300 free a month, then 35p. eBay.de private: 320, then €0.50. eBay.pl private: 150, then 1.50 zł. OLX: category limits such as 2 private listings for smartphones
Listing volume on OLX Too many active listings to manage by hand OLX listing packages cap you at 500 active listings
Shipping cost Parcels eat margin on cheap items On Allegro Lokalnie, if you and the buyer both have Smart!, Allegro pays for the first 6 parcels per quarter; unused parcels don't roll over
Account status Your volume starts to look commercial Vinted's commercial-activity signals; OLX Business User status; eBay business fees
Tax status Revenue approaches a legal limit In Poland, 10,813.50 zł per quarter for unregistered activity in 2026; DAC7 reporting from 30 sales or more than €2,000 a year

Decision rule: fix the bottleneck that is binding now, not the one you expect next year. If cash is stuck in stock, a bigger listing quota won't help.

How to scale a reselling business takes these bottlenecks in order (cash, sourcing time, listing time, storage, compliance) and shows the account rules that cap volume on standard accounts.

How to start reselling in 30 days: a starter plan

The plan is sized for a first month with a small budget. Every count and day range below is an example to adapt, not a rule from any marketplace.

Your first 30 days of reselling
  1. Days 1–3

Pick one marketplace and one category. Read its fee page and seller rules, and decide whether you're selling your own items or buying to resell.

  2. Days 4–10

Sell a few things you already own, to learn the listing form, shipping labels, deadlines and payout without buying risk.

  3. Days 8–14

Write down comparable items for your category, then set a fair value and a maximum buy price for each item type.

  4. Days 12–20

Buy a small first batch, only at or below your maximum buy price. Photograph flaws before listing.

  5. Days 15–27

List, answer questions, hold your offer floor and ship inside every deadline.

  6. Days 28–30

Record profit per item, days listed and hours spent. Keep what worked and change one thing for month two.

Example plan. Adjust the day ranges to the time you actually have.

Before day 1, set up a simple record. The reseller inventory and profit tracker has one row per item and formulas for profit, ROI and days to sell (semicolon version for Polish Excel). It has no DAC7 view: filter sale dates by calendar year to count sales and totals.

  • One row per item: date bought, purchase price, travel and packaging
  • Marketplace, listing date, listed price and the price levels you worked out
  • Sale date, sale price, fee charged, shipping you paid
  • Profit per item, calculated with the formula at the top of this guide
  • Running count of sales and total received this calendar year, against the DAC7 threshold
  • A note on which account type you're selling from, and why

At the end of the month, answer three questions from that record. Which step of the loop held items longest? Did any item make a profit only because you left a cost out? Would the same items have left more money on another marketplace's fee model?

Frequently asked questions

Is reselling legal in the EU and UK?
The sources read for this guide don't give a yes-or-no answer; they attach conditions. Vinted's standard accounts are for personal use, and Vinted may hide or remove listings, or ban the account, when it detects commercial selling on one. Vinted Pro, offered in 8 countries on 13 Sept 2026 (not Poland or Germany), asks for a registration number (Vinted UK help). Selling counterfeits can lead to civil and criminal proceedings, Vinted warns. This is general information, not legal advice.
How much money do I need to start reselling?
None of the sources read for this guide gives a starting budget or a reliable average to quote. Work it out from your first batch: starting budget = purchase prices + packaging + travel + a buffer for seller fees. For example, three jackets at 60 zł each, 15 zł of packaging and 20 zł of travel come to 215 zł. The fee buffer is 0 zł for Allegro Lokalnie local listings; if you plan buy-now sales there instead, add 7.9% of the prices you expect to sell at.
Which marketplace is best for beginners in Europe?
There is no single answer, because fee models change by country and account type. Test it: search the marketplace for your category and check that you can find enough comparable items to price against. Then check shipping against your item prices. Allegro's Lokalnie fee page lists parcels at 10.95 zł (Allegro Paczkomaty InPost) and 10.49 zł (Allegro One Box). On a 30 zł item (example), a 10.95 zł parcel is more than a third of the price, so local pickup may suit it better.
Do I have to pay tax on reselling income?
It depends on your country and on whether you sell personal items or buy to resell. In Poland, a private item sold within six months (counted from the end of the month you bought it) is taxable: podatki.gov.pl says it goes on PIT-36 even at a loss, filed between 15 February and 30 April. Items sold as a business are taxable however long you held them. Being reported under DAC7 is not a tax in itself. This is not tax advice; ask a tax adviser about your situation.
Can I use bots to buy or relist items?
Only where the marketplace allows it, and most terms read for this guide restrict it. Vinted's ban on unauthorised external software tools names uses such as promoting items and adding items to favourites, and a separate clause bans deleting and relisting in bulk. eBay's US User Agreement bans buy-for-me agents and ordering flows without human review unless eBay permits them. A text search of OLX's Terms found no explicit bot clause, which is not permission.
