Vinted vs Depop for Resellers
Two clothing apps with different fee models and very different rules on crosslisting.

- Vinted's UK, French, German and Polish price lists charge sellers no commission. The buyer pays a fee instead: usually 3–8% + £0.30–£0.80 in the UK and 5% + 2.90 zł in Poland.
- Depop charges UK-based sellers 2.9% + £0.30 processing on the item price plus postage. Sellers pricing in other currencies pay a 10% selling fee plus a PayPal fee that Depop doesn't publish.
- To get the same payout on both: in the UK, set the Depop price to (target + £0.30 + 2.9% of postage) ÷ 0.971. In Depop's 10% regime with a Depop label, set it to target ÷ 0.90, before PayPal.
- Depop's Terms, effective 2 September 2026, allow third-party crosslisting platforms under three conditions. Vinted's Terms ban external software tools it hasn't authorised, and bulk delete-and-relist.
- Vinted's updated Terms take effect on 5 October 2026 in Germany and France and on 8 October 2026 in the UK and Poland. Press reports say the buyer fee will be renamed "Vinted fee".
Vinted vs Depop comes down to two things: who pays the fee, and what each platform's terms let you automate. Vinted's UK, French, German and Polish price lists charge sellers no commission and add a fee for the buyer. Depop charges sellers in the UK, US and Australia payment processing, and everyone else 10% plus PayPal's fee. Depop's Terms explicitly allow third-party crosslisting platforms. Vinted's ban external software tools it hasn't authorised.
This page covers fees, shipping, what each platform publishes about buyers, the crosslisting clauses, disputes, and how to run both at once. Facts come from official pages read on 13 September 2026, plus press reports where marked. We haven't tested either app.

Vinted vs Depop fees: the UK and everywhere else
Vinted. The only seller-side charges on the price lists are Bump and Showcase, and both are optional. Instead, the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee on every "Buy now" order. Vinted calls the rate "usual" because it varies with the item, the order value and bundles. The UK price list (updated 08-09-2025) gives 3–8% + £0.30–£0.80. It is 5% + €0.70 in Germany and France, and 5% + 2.90 zł in Poland.
Depop. The seller fees page says there are no selling fees for sellers based in the UK, US or Australia. Those sellers still pay processing: 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK. If you sell in any other currency, Depop takes 10% of the item price, plus shipping if you don't use a Depop label. PayPal's processing fee comes on top, and Depop says it varies. Boost rates, refunds and bundle rules are covered in Depop fees for sellers in the UK and Europe.
If you list the same item on both, raise the Depop price rather than lowering the Vinted one. Work it out from the payout you want:
Example: a £25 target with £4 postage gives £26.18 on Depop UK. A €25 target gives €27.78 in the 10% regime, before PayPal. The UK line assumes no taxes are added to the order.
Payment processing and who pays shipping
Vinted. The buyer pays for shipping and picks the method from the carriers you have switched on in your settings. You get a prepaid, Vinted-generated label. You have 5 business days to ship before the order is cancelled automatically, and you can ask the buyer for 3 or 5 more business days, which they can refuse. That rule appears on the UK, Polish, French and German help pages. In the UK, the money sits as "Pending balance" until the order completes. The buyer has 2 days after delivery to complete the order or raise a claim, and you're paid within 2 days of completion. A bank withdrawal then takes up to 5 business days.
Depop. In the UK, US and Australia, sellers are paid through Depop Payments, which runs on Stripe. UK sellers joining it agree to a Bacs Direct Debit mandate. Processing is charged on the item price plus shipping and taxes, so higher postage means a higher fee. Elsewhere, PayPal processes payments. Depop's US sell page, which we read through a reader proxy, says the buyer prepays shipping when you use Depop Shipping. Our research didn't capture Depop's payout timing.
Decision rule: if you sell on Depop outside the UK, US and Australia, compare a Depop label with your own courier. Without the label, Depop's 10% also applies to the postage.
Audience and styles: what the platforms publish
None of the pages in our research gives buyer numbers, age groups or best-selling styles for either platform. We found no official usage figures for Depop in Poland either. So this page doesn't claim that one audience is bigger, younger or more fashion-led.
What Vinted does publish is how it ranks listings: upload time, price and brand; engagement such as views, clicks and favourites; the buyer's own history; and Bumps. A Bump shows the item "in your registered country". The Polish and French price lists price a Bump by domestic or international reach. Depop's ranking rules weren't part of our research.
Test your own category instead. The numbers below are an example, not a benchmark:
- Pick 10 items of one style that you could sell on either platform
- Price each item on Depop with the payout formula above, so both platforms pay you the same
- After 14 days, note views, likes or favourites, offers and orders on each platform
- Keep the platform that turns your style into orders, then repeat for the next category
Crosslisting and automation rules
Depop's Terms of Service, "Effective from 2 September 2026", say you "may simultaneously list your items for sale on other platforms and/or marketplaces … via third party cross-listing platforms". There are three conditions: follow the Terms in full, remove the item from Depop promptly if it sells elsewhere, and accept full responsibility if it sells twice, including refunding the buyer. The same Terms ban anyone who would "use any bots or other third party software on the Service".
Vinted's Terms don't mention crosslisting. That applies to the UK version applicable from 30 April 2026 and to the matching German, French and Polish clauses. They ban "any kind of external software tools", such as bots and scrapers, "unless such a use is authorised, offered or in any other way allowed by us". They also ban deleting and relisting "the same Item multiple times or multiple Items in bulk". Vinted's published API, Pro Integrations, is open only to allowlisted Vinted Pro businesses. Value Added Resource reports that the October update leaves the automation and relisting rules unchanged in the UK.
| Task | Depop | Vinted |
|---|---|---|
| Post through a crosslisting platform | Covered while you meet the three conditions | An external tool, unless Vinted allows it |
| Auto-offer or auto-follow features | Banned as bots or third-party software | Banned unless Vinted allows them |
| Refresh by deleting and relisting | Not covered in our research | Banned when repeated or in bulk |
| Link to your listing on the other platform | Not covered in our research | Catalogue Rules ban links to external platforms |
Decision rule: if one tool posts to both, it is covered on Depop only while you meet Depop's conditions. On Vinted, list and delist by hand unless the vendor can show you Vinted's permission. Marketplace automation rules sets these clauses beside eBay's, Grailed's and OLX's.
Disputes and returns
Vinted, UK help pages. A buyer has 2 days from Vinted's notice that the parcel should have arrived to open a claim. After that, or once they press "Everything is OK", you're paid. Wrong size or colour, undisclosed damage, different main materials and counterfeits count as significantly not as described. "Doesn't fit" does not. Private sellers owe no change-of-mind returns, but Pro sellers must accept returns for any reason within 14 days. When a return is agreed, the buyer pays return postage unless you offer to, and must send the item back within 5 business days. You then have 2 days to inspect it. The full sequence is in Vinted returns and not-as-described claims.
Depop. Our research covers less here. On a refunded sale, Depop reverses its selling, processing and boosting fees, automatically with Depop Payments. Depop Protection in the UK and US requires proof of shipping. In the US, an order that isn't shipped within a reasonable time may be cancelled and refunded automatically. We didn't capture Depop's claim windows or return rules, so read its help centre before your first sale.
Decision rule: on Depop, keep proof of postage for every order. On Vinted, photograph the item and the sealed parcel before drop-off, because you have 2 days to inspect a return.
Which items belong where
These rules follow from the published fees and terms, not from sales data:
- Your own clothes, sold as a UK or EU private seller: Vinted takes no mandatory fee from you; on Depop, use the payout formula or keep the item on Vinted
- Items priced in euros or złoty: Depop takes 10% plus PayPal and Vinted takes nothing from you, so Depop has to find a buyer Vinted didn't
- Cheap items: example, a £5 top on Depop UK pays 2.9% × £5 + £0.30 = £0.45 before postage, about 9% of the price; on Vinted the fixed part falls on the buyer
- Items you want to promote: a Depop boost costs 12% in the UK and US only when it led to the sale; Vinted's Bump price isn't published and appears at checkout
- Designer pieces: Vinted's Item Verification is optional and paid by the buyer (£10, €10 or 45 zł); our research has no Depop authentication details
- Stock bought to resell in Poland or Germany: Vinted's standard accounts are personal-only, and Pro isn't open in either country; our research didn't cover Depop's rules for business sellers
- Items you'll crosslist with a tool: Depop's Terms name the tool route; Vinted's don't
For high-value designer items, Vinted vs Vestiaire Collective compares what authentication costs on each. For marketplaces beyond these two, see the best resale marketplaces in Europe. If you're still setting up, start with how to start reselling in Europe.
Running both
- Keep one master list: item, Vinted price, Depop price, and where each item is live
- Set the Depop price from your target payout, not by copying the Vinted price
- When an item sells, delist the other copy straight away: Depop's Terms require "promptly"
- If an item sells twice, refund one buyer; on Depop the Terms make that your job, and Depop reverses its fees on the refunded order
- Leave "also on Depop" links out of Vinted listings and your Vinted profile
- On Vinted, edit a listing that isn't selling instead of deleting and relisting it, and never delete and relist in bulk
The delisting routine, and what happens on each platform after a double sale, are covered in how to avoid double sales when crosslisting.
