The Best Resale Marketplaces in Europe

A country-by-country and category-by-category guide for sellers.

A grid of European resale marketplaces against Poland, Germany and the UK, marked by whether a private seller pays commission
Key takeaways
  • Where you live changes the fee more than the platform does: eBay.co.uk charges UK-based private sellers no final value fee, but private sellers living elsewhere pay 12.8% + 30p per order on the same site.
  • Vinted's UK, French, German and Polish price lists have no seller commission; the buyer usually pays 5% + €0.70 in eurozone markets, 5% + 2.90 zł in Poland and 3–8% + £0.30–0.80 in the UK. New Vinted Terms take effect on 5 October 2026 (DE, FR) and 8 October 2026 (UK, US, PL).
  • A private seller in Poland pays no eBay.de selling fee when the buyer's delivery address is in Germany, and a 5% international fee when it isn't. eBay.pl, by contrast, charges Polish private sellers 11%.
  • For trainers, designer bags and watches, compare the cost of trust: Vestiaire Collective's 12% band plus 3% processing, Chrono24's 6.5% for private sellers, and eBay's authentication, which is free to the seller above category price thresholds.
  • Listing one item on several sites is explicitly allowed through crosslisting platforms under Depop's Terms, but OLX treats a relist of the same item within 14 days as a duplicate in free and limited categories, and Vinted bans bulk delete-and-relist.

The best resale platforms in Europe depend first on where you live and only then on what you sell. Vinted's UK, French, German and Polish price lists charge private sellers no commission, because the buyer pays the fee. eBay is free to private sellers only on some national sites and only for some residents. Specialists such as Vestiaire Collective and Chrono24 take a commission in exchange for a buyer's trust.

This guide sets out the fee model a private seller faces in Poland, Germany and the UK, then goes platform by platform and category by category. Every fee comes from the platform's own pages, read on 13 September 2026. None of them publishes buyer numbers by country, so the first section shows you how to test audience yourself.

How to compare resale platforms: fees, audience, protection, effort

Check these four things in order. The first two can rule a platform out before the others matter.

Check What to look at Decision rule
Fees Who pays: a seller commission, a buyer fee, or listing limits If you pay a percentage, deduct it from the expected sale price before buying stock
Account Whether an individual account may sell items bought to resell If it's personal use only and you buy to resell, find the business route; if your country has none, skip the platform
Protection What a buyer claim covers, and when you get paid If payout waits for a claim window, count it in your cash cycle
Effort Shipping deadline, who pays postage, local pickup If the item is bulky or cheap, favour classifieds with local pickup

Audience is the one you have to measure. Search your exact item (brand, model, size) on each platform in your country and note how many live listings match. Repeat the search 14 days later and count how many of the first set have gone. Example: 6 of 20 gone on one platform and 1 of 20 on another means more movement on the first. Sellers delete listings too, so treat the count as a signal, not proof of sales.

Effort shows up in the deadlines. Vinted cancels an order automatically if you don't ship within 5 business days (UK, Polish, French and German help pages). On OLX delivery orders, the buyer is refunded automatically if you don't hand the parcel to the carrier within 3 working days of accepting.

Pan-European: Vinted

Vinted runs one model across its countries: the seller pays no commission, and the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee at checkout. The only seller-side charges on the UK, French, German and Polish price lists are the optional Bump and Showcase, priced at checkout.

The buyer fee changes by country, and every price list calls it the usual rate, not a fixed one:

  • Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Lithuania: usually 5% + €0.70
  • Czech Republic: 5% + 18 Kč
  • Sweden: 5% + 7.50 kr
  • Romania: 5% + 3.5 RON
  • UK: the only range, 3–8% + £0.30–0.80

Vinted's UK help page says the buyer chooses and pays for shipping. The UK Terms add a currency conversion fee of 1.2% or 3% of the item price where conversion is offered; which countries get which rate isn't stated.

The account rule matters more than the fee. Vinted's Catalogue Rules say: "We do not allow our individual users to list any items which are intended to be sold for commercial purposes." Vinted Pro is the business route. On 13 September 2026 it was open in only eight countries: Italy, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium and the UK. Germany is not on the list, and Vinted's Polish help page says Pro is not open to Polish businesses.

Decision rule: if you're clearing your own wardrobe, Vinted is the simplest of these fee models to price for. If you buy to resell and live in Germany or Poland, Vinted's pages describe no business route for you today, so settle that before sourcing stock for it. Vinted vs eBay for European resellers shows how the answer flips by country and seller type.

Poland: OLX, Allegro Lokalnie, Allegro and eBay.pl

Poland has the most fee models side by side, and it is the hardest to compare because OLX doesn't publish its amounts.

OLX.pl limits free listings instead of taking commission. Annex 3 (effective 7 January 2026) sets the limits by category, for example 2 private listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs and 50 for perfumes. In many categories the business limit is 0. On delivery orders the buyer pays for the Pakiet Ochronny, with the amount shown in each listing, and has 48 hours from pickup or delivery to claim. If a claim is accepted, the buyer returns the item at your cost. OLX's pay-if-you-sell model ("Zapłać, jeśli sprzedasz") has no published rate.

Allegro Lokalnie charges its fee only if the buyer pays within 72 hours, or fills in the delivery form for cash on delivery or pickup. Only regular (private) accounts can list there; business accounts can buy but not sell. Parcels cost 10.95 zł with Allegro Paczkomaty InPost and 10.49 zł with Allegro One Box. If both you and the buyer have Smart!, Allegro pays for the first 6 parcels per quarter.

allegro.pl charges a net category commission on item price plus delivery, for example up to 11.5% in Moda and 2.5–8% in Elektronika. Regular accounts for private individuals exist. Allegro's official account comparison doesn't confirm any selling limits on them, so don't rely on figures from other sites.

eBay.pl has no free-selling programme. You get 150 free listings a month, then 1.50 zł each. The final value fee and per-order fee are in the table above, plus a regulatory operating fee on which eBay's own pages disagree: 0.43% on the help page, 0.35% + VAT on Strefa Sprzedawcy.

What a private seller in Poland keeps from a 200 zł sale, before shipping
Vinted.pl (buyer pays the fee)200 zł
Allegro Lokalnie, local listing200 zł
Allegro Lokalnie, Kup teraz (7.9%)184.2 zł
eBay.pl (11% + 1.35 zł)176.65 zł
Worked example with a 200 zł item and the buyer paying postage. The eBay.pl bar leaves out the regulatory operating fee, because eBay's two Polish pages give different rates. If you charge postage on eBay.pl, the 11% applies to that as well.Illustrative example, not market data

Decision rule: for a cheap or bulky item with a local buyer, a Lokalnie local listing or an OLX listing within your free limit costs you nothing. For an item that ships, compare Vinted, where the buyer carries the fee, against Lokalnie Kup teraz, where you pay 7.9%. Clothing sellers get the full Poland comparison, with shipping and protection, in where to sell used clothes in Poland.

Germany: Kleinanzeigen and eBay.de

Kleinanzeigen is free for private sellers until they exceed its thresholds. In consumer goods, services and jobs, each ad over 100 in 30 days costs €1.99 including VAT. Paid ads run for 30 days, and ads in those categories can be extended free, as often as you like. Cars have their own rules: up to 2 ads per 30 days are free if the car costs under €30,000.

The buyer pays €0.50 + 4.5% for Sicher bezahlen, which Kleinanzeigen says is free for sellers. Shipping with Sicher bezahlen and buyer protection works only within Germany, and PayPal payments sit outside the protected flow. The Terms, read through a summarizer, allow at most two accounts per user: one private, one commercial.

eBay.de has been free since 1 March 2023 for private sellers resident in the EEA, Poland included, on sales within Germany. You get 320 free listings a month, then €0.50 each, and delivery outside Germany adds a 5% international fee. eBay's German buyer protection still covers not-as-described claims when a private seller excludes returns, but not items collected in person. The fee pages mention no buyer-side fee on private purchases; that is an absence on the page, not a statement.

Decision rules:

  • If the buyer collects a bulky item, Kleinanzeigen costs a private seller nothing, and eBay's protection wouldn't cover a pickup anyway.
  • If you sell privately from Poland to German buyers, eBay.de charges no selling fee while delivery stays inside Germany.
  • If you trade in Germany, Vinted Pro isn't open there, so compare Kleinanzeigen's commercial account (its fee article wasn't read for this guide) with eBay.de's business fees.

UK: eBay UK and Depop

eBay.co.uk charges UK-based private sellers no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee in any category except Motors. You get 300 free listings a month, or 400 with an eBay Shop, then 35p each. Automatic relists are free, but manual relists count against the allowance. Delivery outside the UK costs a 3% international fee.

Instead of you, the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee, included in the price they see: £0.10 per item, 7% of the price up to £20, 4% from £20 to £300 and 2% from £300 to £4,000. Private sellers who don't accept returns are still bound to deliver the item as described.

Depop charges UK sellers no selling fee. The 2.9% + £0.30 processing fee applies to the item price plus shipping and any taxes. Boosting costs 12% on new listings from 23 March 2026, charged only if the buyer interacted with the boosted listing and bought within 28 days. Depop fees for sellers in the UK and Europe separates the UK rate from the 10% rest-of-world rate.

Vinted UK is the one market here where Vinted Pro is open. Vinted calls it a legal requirement for traders under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and a Pro seller's buyer can return an item for any reason within 14 days.

Specialists: Vestiaire Collective, Chrono24, Catawiki

Specialist platforms charge more because the buyer's first question is "is it real?".

Platform What the seller pays What else to know
Vestiaire Collective (GBP) 12% for items £83–£16,667; £10 fixed below £83; £2,000 fixed above; plus 3% processing (£3 minimum) The fee page dates this structure for EUR listings from 9 June 2026, but the EUR fixed amounts weren't captured. Professional sellers get a reduced rate if their monthly cancellation rate is 10% or lower
Chrono24 (private sellers) 6.5% commission, due only after a sale; listing is free Through escrow, you are paid within 7 days of the watch being delivered. If the buyer paid you directly, Chrono24 sends an invoice payable within 14 days
Catawiki 12.5% of the sale price plus a fixed amount, excluding VAT The buyer pays 9% + €3 on top. The seller's fixed amount isn't given on the help page read, so a full seller-side example isn't possible

Example: a £500 bag on Vestiaire Collective costs you £60 in selling fee and £15 in processing, £75 before shipping. On eBay.co.uk a UK private seller pays no final value fee, and eBay's UK handbag authentication is free to the seller from £200. What you're weighing is where the buyer looks, which the audience test above measures. Vestiaire Collective seller fees covers the band, fixed fees and pro rate in detail. Vinted vs Vestiaire Collective sets the 12% band against Vinted's buyer-paid Item Verification.

Best platform by category

"Best" here means the structural fit for the category: fees, authentication and pickup rules. It is not a sales ranking, because no source read for this guide publishes one.

From each platform's official pages. The second column is where to run the audience test first, not a verdict on where items sell. From public product pages, checked 2026-09-13

Trainers also turn on eBay's reduced business rate of 7% from £100 (UK) or €100 (Germany); the best place to sell sneakers in Europe works through those thresholds. For iPhones in Poland, Swappie is a buyback, not a marketplace: its quote can be locked for 14 days, which makes it a floor to compare marketplace offers against.

Selling on several platforms at once

Listing one item in two places reaches more buyers, but each platform sets its own duplicate and tool rules.

Platform What its own pages say
Depop (Terms effective 2 Sept 2026) Crosslisting through third-party crosslisting platforms is explicitly allowed. You must remove the item promptly if it sells elsewhere and refund the buyer if it sells twice. Bots and other third-party software on the service are banned
Vinted No deleting and relisting the same item multiple times, or multiple items in bulk. No external software tools unless Vinted authorises them. Items in a bundle can't also be listed separately
OLX.pl In free and limited categories, only one listing per item at a time, and ending a listing and relisting within 14 days counts as a duplicate. The item must be in your possession
eBay The US duplicate listings policy allows only one fixed price listing of an identical item at a time from the same seller
Kleinanzeigen Crawlers, scrapers and other automated mechanisms banned without written consent (Terms read through a summarizer)
  • Keep one stock list showing every platform an item is live on
  • Decide before listing how fast you'll remove a sold item everywhere
  • Edit a price instead of deleting and relisting on Vinted and OLX
  • Read the platform's terms before connecting any tool to your account

The full rules, and what crosslisting tools actually support on each platform, are in the crosslisting guide for European resellers. If you're still deciding whether to sell at all, start with how to start reselling in Europe.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to sell clothes in Europe?
No single app wins in every country. Vinted's UK, French, German and Polish price lists contain no seller commission, because the buyer pays its fee, which makes it the default to test first for your own clothes. In the UK, eBay.co.uk also charges UK-based private sellers no final value fee. In Poland, Allegro Lokalnie charges 0 zł on local listings. If you buy clothes to resell, read the account rules before the fees: Vinted's standard accounts are for personal use.
Is eBay free for private sellers in Europe?
Only on some eBay sites and for some residents. eBay.co.uk charges no final value fee to UK-based private sellers outside Motors, while private sellers living elsewhere pay 12.8% + 30p per order there. eBay.de is free for private sellers resident in the EEA when the item is delivered within Germany, with a 5% international fee otherwise. eBay.pl has no free-selling programme: private sellers pay 11% of the total sale up to 9,990 zł plus a per-order fee.
Which marketplace is best in Germany?
Nobody publishes buyer numbers by platform for Germany, so compare the rules. Kleinanzeigen is free for private sellers up to 100 ads in 30 days in consumer goods and suits local pickup. eBay.de is free for EEA-resident private sellers on sales delivered within Germany. On vinted.de the buyer usually pays 5% + €0.70. Germany is not on Vinted's Pro country list, which matters if you trade. Then search your exact item on all three and see where comparable listings turn over.
Do I need a business account to sell on these marketplaces?
It depends on the platform and on whether you are trading. Vinted bans commercial listings on individual accounts, and its UK page calls a Pro account a legal requirement for traders. OLX asks you to declare business use for your whole activity there. Allegro business accounts cannot sell on Allegro Lokalnie at all. Tax rules are a separate question from account rules, so this is general information, not tax or legal advice. Ask an accountant or tax adviser in your country.
