The Best Things to Resell in Europe

Categories ranked by the factors that decide margin, not by viral flips.

Eight second-hand categories laid out as cards, from folded jackets and trainers to a watch, a phone and a chair, each with a score out of ten
Key takeaways
  • On structural factors (fees, OLX free-listing limits, authentication burden, parcel size and dispute exposure), branded clothing, sneakers and vintage clothing score highest; watches score lowest.
  • For private sellers in Poland, fees barely separate categories: Vinted lists no seller commission and Allegro Lokalnie charges 0 zł on local listings. Limits and authentication decide more.
  • OLX.pl's January 2026 annex gives private users 2 free listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs, and 1 per 60 days for furniture.
  • eBay's mandatory authentication starts at £200 / €200 for sneakers, fashion and handbags, £350 for trading cards in the UK, and £1,500 / €1,500 for watches.
  • No marketplace publishes what sells best by category or brand, so treat any ranked list as a shortlist and run a two-week exit test in your own market before you buy stock.

The best things to resell in Europe, if you are starting small, are branded clothing and outerwear, sneakers and vintage clothing. They combine a seller-free route on Vinted, small parcels, and rules a beginner can follow. Trading cards come next. Phones, furniture and designer bags are workable but carry tighter limits or bigger risks, and watches come last.

No marketplace publishes what sells best, so this list isn't built on sales data. Each category is scored on factors you can check: fees, OLX.pl free-listing limits, authentication thresholds, parcel size and dispute exposure. Platform facts come from official pages checked on 13 September 2026. After the list: one section per category, brand traits, what to avoid, our scoring, and a two-week test for your own market.

Best things to resell in Europe: the ranked list

Each category gets up to 2 points on five factors, 10 at most. Ties go to the category where one bad buy costs less.

  1. Branded clothing and outerwear: 7/10. No seller commission on Vinted, small parcels, low cost per item. Size and damage disputes are the main exposure.
  2. Sneakers: 7/10. Same fee picture, and exact model and size make comparables easy to find. Fakes are a real risk, but official checks exist at every price.
  3. Vintage clothing: 7/10. Cheap to ship and rarely a brand-authentication problem, but exact comparables are scarce, so pricing is slower.
  4. Trading cards and collectibles: 6/10. Generous OLX limits and tiny parcels. Official authentication starts high and auction platforms take a larger cut.
  5. Furniture and bulky items for local pickup: 5/10. 0 zł sale fee on Allegro Lokalnie local listings, but OLX allows one free furniture listing per 60 days and you can't post it in a parcel locker.
  6. Smartphones and small electronics: 5/10. Low fees, but only two free private OLX listings, and faults count as "not as described".
  7. Designer bags and accessories: 5/10. Several authentication routes, but high buy-in and counterfeit exposure.
  8. Watches: 4/10. Mandatory eBay authentication only from £1,500 / €1,500, specialist fees, high capital per item.

Branded clothing and outerwear

Clothing ranks first because its cheapest shipped route charges no seller commission. Vinted's price lists for the UK, France, Germany and Poland show no seller commission line. The buyer pays shipping and a Buyer Protection fee, which Vinted's Polish price list gives as "usually 5% + 2.90 zł", its German one as usually 5% plus €0.70, and the UK one as usually 3–8% plus £0.30–0.80.

That fee picture is changing name. Vinted's updated Terms take effect on 5 October 2026 in Germany and France and on 8 October 2026 in the UK, US and Poland. Press coverage (Value Added Resource, September 2026) reports that the buyer charge will be renamed "Vinted fee". Re-check the price list after those dates.

Other routes cost more or are less clear. Allegro Lokalnie charges 7.9% on Kup teraz and auctions, and allegro.pl's Moda commission runs up to 11.5% net. OLX.pl's annex gives Moda a business limit of 50, but its private column shows "-", which the annex doesn't explain.

Your main exposure is a "significantly not as described" claim. Vinted's help page counts wrong colour, incorrect size and undisclosed damage as SNAD, but not "doesn't fit" or "don't like it". Decision rule: if you can't measure the garment and photograph every flaw, don't buy it to resell.

Sneakers

Sneakers share clothing's fee advantage and add one thing clothing lacks: exact comparables. Model, colourway and size identify a pair precisely, which makes a price estimate more reliable. Pricing a used pair by size, condition and box covers that part.

The cost is counterfeit exposure, and the official checks are threshold-based:

  • eBay UK authenticates trainers mandatorily from £200. Below that, buyers can choose it for £20.
  • eBay.de authenticates sneakers from €200, optional for €20 below.
  • Vinted offers buyer-paid Item Verification: £10 in the UK, €10 in France and Germany, 45 zł in Poland.

On fees, eBay.de is free within Germany for private sellers resident in the EEA, including Poland, with a 5% international fee on delivery outside Germany. Business sellers on eBay UK pay 11.9% on trainers, or 7% from an item price of £100.

Which platform wins for a particular pair, including GOAT and StockX for deadstock, is on the best place to sell sneakers in Europe.

Vintage clothing

Vintage scores like clothing on fees and parcels, and it's rarely a brand-authentication problem. Age is what buyers question, and specialist platforms set their own bar. Etsy accepts an item as vintage only if it is "at least 20 years old". It does not accept "handed down from a relative" or "purchased at an estate sale" as proof.

Etsy's route costs more than Vinted's: a 6.5% transaction fee on price plus shipping and a $0.20 listing fee (Etsy fee policy, last updated 13 February 2026).

The weakness is price evidence: one-off pieces have few exact comparables. Vinted's catalogue rules require a condition and described defects, and allow up to 3 materials. Fill them all, because material and measurements are how buyers compare pieces with no model name.

Decision rule: if you can't date a label or name the fabric, price from the middle of your comparables rather than the top.

Trading cards and collectibles

On OLX.pl, collectibles are one of the roomier categories: Antyki i Kolekcje allows mostly 20–30 free private listings (business 0). Cards are also the smallest parcel on this list.

Fees and authentication pull the score down:

  • Allegro, Kolekcje i sztuka: 3–14% net commission.
  • Catawiki: 12.5% of the sale price plus a fixed amount, excluding VAT. Buyers pay a separate protection fee.
  • eBay UK authentication: trading cards only from £350. The eBay.de help page does not list trading cards at all.

Singles, graded slabs and bulk lots each need a different route. Reselling trading cards in Europe separates them.

Furniture and bulky items for local pickup

Furniture is the cheapest category to sell and the hardest to repeat. Allegro Lokalnie charges a 0 zł sale fee on local listings. In Germany, Kleinanzeigen is free for private sellers until they exceed 100 consumer-goods ads in 30 days, then €1.99 per extra ad.

OLX.pl is the bottleneck. Its annex gives private users one free furniture listing per 60 days and two for most other home and garden items. You can't get around it by relisting either: in free and limited categories, OLX's Terms count a new listing for an item you ended less than 14 days earlier as a duplicate.

Example: you pick up three chairs and a table in one house clearance. On OLX alone, only one free furniture listing fits in 60 days, so list them as a set (OLX's Terms require a listing to say whether it's one item, several units or a set) or budget for paid listings, whose prices OLX shows in its app.

Smartphones and small electronics

Fees are low: Allegro Lokalnie charges 4.9% on electronics instead of 7.9%, and allegro.pl's Elektronika commission is 2.5–8% net. Limits and disputes are the problem.

Example: a phone sells for 400 zł through Kup teraz on Allegro Lokalnie. At 4.9% the fee is 19.60 zł; the same price at the standard 7.9% would cost 31.60 zł.

What lowers the score:

  • OLX.pl: private users get 2 free listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs; business users get 0. Accessories allow 5–10.
  • Disputes: on Vinted, functionality not as described counts as SNAD. Disclosed wear on electronics does not.
  • Bundles: Vinted's catalogue rules allow at most 2 battery-powered devices in an electronics bundle.
  • Verification: Vinted's buyer-paid Electronics Verification costs £5 in the UK, €5 in France and Germany, and 20 zł in Poland.

Phones also have a buyback exit: Swappie buys iPhones from consumers in Poland and 15 other European countries and locks a quote for 14 days. Channel maths, testing and data wiping are on reselling used electronics.

Designer bags and accessories

Bags have the most authentication routes of any category here and still score low, because each route exists to handle fakes and one bad buy costs a lot.

Route Rule or fee (checked 13 Sept 2026)
eBay UK Mandatory authentication from £200, optional £20 below; business fee 12.9% up to £800, 7% above
eBay.de Mandatory from €200, optional €20 below
Vinted Buyer-paid Item Verification: £10 / €10 / 45 zł
Vestiaire Collective 12% for items £83–£16,667, £10 fixed below £83, plus 3% payment processing

Vinted's catalogue rules say selling counterfeits "could expose sellers to civil and criminal proceedings", and a verified fake is a SNAD claim. Press coverage of the October 2026 update reports that sellers will get 48 hours instead of 24 to provide authenticity evidence.

Decision rule: if you can't document where a bag came from before you buy it, pass. How receipts, serials and dust bags change the price is on designer bag resale.

Watches

Watches come last because every structural factor gets harder at once. eBay UK makes authentication mandatory only from £1,500 (optional for £99 between £500 and £1,499.99). eBay.de starts at €1,500, with an optional €100 check between €500 and €1,499.99. Below those prices, the buyer's trust rests on you.

Chrono24 is the specialist route for private sellers: listing is free, a 6.5% commission is due after a sale, and with escrow the seller is paid within 7 days of delivery.

We did not check which OLX category and limit apply to watches, so the scorecard shows that factor as not stated. Reference numbers, papers and service history are covered in the watch resale guide.

Brands: traits that help resale (no sales ranking)

"Best brands to resell" needs per-brand sales data, and no marketplace publishes it. What we can say is which traits make a brand easier to resell, based on how the platforms work:

  • A model name or style code buyers search for: Vinted ranks results by relevance to the query and uses brand as a ranking attribute
  • Size and material on a label you can photograph: wrong size and different main materials count as not as described on Vinted
  • Few look-alikes: Vinted bans counterfeits, including handmade items that resemble other brands
  • Enough comparables to count how many left the market before you buy

Vinted also bans brand spam: unrelated brands in the brand field, title, description or hashtags. To compare brands with your own evidence rather than a list, use the product research method for finding a reselling niche.

Categories to avoid as a beginner

Avoid Why (official source, checked 13 Sept 2026)
Medicines, supplements, tickets, gift cards, worn underwear bottoms, used grill items, fur, services Prohibited in Vinted's catalogue rules
Cars, motorcycles, real estate, farm machinery No free quota on OLX.pl; Allegro Lokalnie charges for car listings, from 19.99 zł per 10 days (Lite)
Identical items bought in bulk for a standard Vinted account Vinted lists this among signals of commercial selling
Watches and luxury bags below authentication thresholds Buyer trust rests on you; fakes cost the full purchase price

If your reselling grows into a business in Poland, one more point applies to electronics. biznes.gov.pl (updated 5 May 2026) says the subjective VAT exemption up to 240,000 zł does not apply to online distance sales of goods such as computers, electronics, cosmetics and household appliances. This is general information, not tax advice, so check your situation with a tax adviser.

How we scored the list (and what we don't claim)

Each factor is scored 2 (yes), 1 (partly, or not stated) or 0 (no):

Factor 2 points 0 points
Low selling fees A seller-free or 0 zł route suits the category Only percentage fees on the routes buyers of the category expect
Room under OLX free limits 20 or more free private listings 2 or fewer
Little authentication burden Brand authenticity is rarely the question Fakes are common and official checks start at high prices
Parcel-friendly Fits a standard parcel Pickup only
Low dispute exposure Few ways to be "not as described" Faults, fakes or high buy-in make one claim expensive

Fees separate categories less than you might expect: Vinted takes no seller commission, OLX listings are free inside the limits, and private sellers pay no selling fee on eBay UK (outside Motors) or on eBay.de (for sales within Germany).

What we don't claim: that any category sells faster or earns more than another. The marketplaces we reviewed publish no sales figures by category, and we have none. The ratings are our judgement applied to official rules.

How to test a category in two weeks

A ranked list tells you where to look; only your own market tells you whether a category pays. Before you start, set two targets from your own budget: the smallest net profit per item you'll accept, and the longest you can wait for your money.

A two-week category test
  1. 1Shortlist two categoriesPick from the top of the list, one you know and one you don't
  2. 2Define one comparableBrand, model or era, size band, condition, marketplace
  3. 3Start a cohort on day 0Record 15–25 listings that went live in the last day or two, with prices
  4. 4Recheck on days 3, 7 and 14Mark which left the market; remove relists
  5. 5Run the numbersShare that left, by price band, and net profit at that price
  6. 6DecideKeep the category only if both of your targets hold
The method in six steps. Cohort size is an example, not a requirement.
share left by day d = 1 − (cohort listings still live on day d ÷ cohort listings on day 0) net profit = sale price − fees − shipping you pay − other costs − purchase cost

"Left the market" is not the same as sold: a seller may have deleted or reserved the listing. The full sampling routine is in how to find a reselling niche, and the wider buy decision is in the product sourcing guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which categories have the strictest listing limits on OLX?
In OLX.pl's listing-limit annex (effective 7 January 2026), furniture is the tightest for private users: one free listing per 60 days. Smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs allow two private listings and none for business users. Cars, real estate and several other categories have no free quota at all. A limit renews 30 days after the last listing counted in it, unless the annex sets another period, so plan paid listings before you buy stock in these categories.
How do I test whether a category is profitable for me?
Write your own two targets first: the smallest net profit per item you will accept and the longest you can wait for your cash. Then follow a group of comparable listings for two weeks, count what share leaves the market at each price band, and work out net profit as sale price minus fees, shipping you pay, other costs and purchase cost. A category passes only if both of your targets hold at a price where items actually leave.
Is electronics reselling risky?
It carries more structural risk than clothing. On Vinted, functionality that differs from the description counts as 'significantly not as described', so an untested device can come back. OLX.pl gives private users only two free listings for smartphones, laptops, consoles and TVs. In Poland, the subjective VAT exemption does not cover online distance sales of electronics, according to biznes.gov.pl. This is general information, not tax advice, so check your own case with a tax adviser.
What should beginners avoid reselling?
Start with anything a marketplace bans outright: Vinted's catalogue rules exclude medicines and supplements, tickets and gift cards, worn underwear bottoms, used grill items, fur and services. Next, skip high-value branded goods where official authentication starts only at high prices, such as watches on eBay UK and eBay.de. Finally, avoid buying many identical items to list on a standard Vinted account, because Vinted lists that pattern as a sign of commercial selling.
