Kleinanzeigen vs Vinted

One charges the buyer, one charges nobody — and they serve different item types.

Kleinanzeigen and Vinted compared for German sellers: fees, caps, shipping, automation rules and item routing
Key takeaways
  • Kleinanzeigen is free for private sellers until caps: ad 101 in 30 days costs €1.99 in consumer goods, services and jobs; cars cost €9.99 from the third ad or at €30,000+.
  • Vinted Germany charges sellers no commission; the buyer pays usually 5% + €0.70, so your payout equals your asking price.
  • Both platforms ban automation in their terms — Kleinanzeigen crawlers and automated mechanisms without written consent, Vinted external tools and bulk relisting — and neither names crosslisting on the pages we read.
  • Route by shape: pickup items to Kleinanzeigen, parcel-postable fashion to Vinted, collectibles that need national buyers to eBay.de.
  • Vinted's updated terms take effect in Germany on 5 October 2026 and press reports say the buyer charge becomes the Vinted fee; re-check the price list after that date.

Kleinanzeigen vs Vinted is a routing question. Kleinanzeigen fits anything local, bulky or pickup-shaped, with free private listings up to category caps and a buyer-paid Sicher bezahlen fee of €0.50 + 4.5%. Vinted fits clothes and small parcels, with no seller commission on its German price list and a buyer fee of usually 5% + €0.70. Both ban automation in their terms, so the choice is about the item — and about how much of the work you do by hand.

Facts below come from both platforms' own pages, read on 13 September 2026. Where a page names no figure, we say so.

On the German price list, updated 8 September 2025, Vinted names no seller commission; its seller-side lines are the optional Bump and Showcase promotions, priced at checkout. Kleinanzeigen's fee page makes private selling free until thresholds — the caps arrive in the rules section below — and its buyer protection costs the buyer €0.50 + 4.5%.

Categories: what each platform is built around

Neither platform publishes sales-by-category data, so read the rules instead. Vinted's catalogue rules are a fashion platform's rules: condition labels, bundle pricing, brand fields, a banned list (medicines, tickets, gift cards, worn underwear bottoms, used grills, fur) and no services or digital goods. Kleinanzeigen's fee table is a general classifieds' table: consumer goods, services, jobs and cars each get their own allowances, which tells you where the platform expects volume.

Decision rule: clothes, shoes and accessories point to Vinted; furniture, appliances, electronics by pickup and cars point to Kleinanzeigen; collectibles that need national buyers point to eBay.de. The full country picture is in reselling in Germany.

Shipping: courier label vs arranged pickup

Vinted Germany runs a courier flow end to end: per Vinted's shipping help, the buyer pays for and chooses the shipping method, you print a prepaid label, and the order must ship within 5 business days or it cancels automatically. Kleinanzeigen's pages we read state no general rule for who pays shipping; Sicher bezahlen protects only shipments inside Germany, and its classic pattern is two people, one hallway, cash in hand.

That difference decides bulky items on its own: a wardrobe that costs more to post than it is worth has no business on a parcel platform.

Rules: automation bans, account limits, catalogue rules

Both platforms push back on tooling. Kleinanzeigen's terms ban crawlers, spiders, scrapers and other automated mechanisms without express written consent, and cap users at two accounts: one private, one commercial. Vinted's terms ban external software tools, scraping, and deleting and relisting the same item repeatedly or in bulk; its catalogue rules add real-photo requirements, a ban on external links, and no commercial items on standard accounts.

The limits bite differently. On Kleinanzeigen the 100-ads-per-30-days cap (consumer goods, services, jobs; €1.99 per ad beyond it) is the practical ceiling for volume. On Vinted the ceiling is behavioural: items of a seemingly commercial nature can earn a suspension — 7 days is the rules' example — and Germany is not on the official Pro list that gives commercial sellers a route in eight other countries.

International reach: domestic protection vs a dozen markets

Sicher bezahlen's protection stops at the German border — the help article says shipping with buyer protection works only within Germany. Vinted runs published price lists across a dozen European markets (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, the UK and more each name a local buyer-fee formula), and its Bump promotion in Poland and France can target domestic or international reach. How much of that becomes cross-border business for a German wardrobe, the research doesn't document — but multi-market fee tables point outward, and a classifieds board whose payment protection is domestic points home. Routing table: which item goes where

Item Route it Why
Branded coat, worn twice Vinted parcel-postable; no seller commission on the German price list
30-piece wardrobe bundle Vinted bundles allowed with one total price; items can't sit in a bundle and as singles
IKEA wardrobe Kleinanzeigen pickup beats a parcel; the caps won't matter at this volume
Used iPhone Either Vinted: buyer-paid fee, optional Electronics Verification €5; Kleinanzeigen: pickup, no fee line for you
Family car Kleinanzeigen 2 free ads per 30 days under €30,000; €9.99 from the third
Dining table Kleinanzeigen two people and a van, no label

Why not both: the crosslisting question

Neither platform's pages we read name crosslisting itself — but both ban the automation crosslisting tools are built on: Kleinanzeigen bans automated mechanisms without written consent, Vinted bans external software tools and bulk relisting. The compliant route is manual: write adapted versions, since a pickup listing and a parcel listing read differently, and end the other listing the moment one sells.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kleinanzeigen or Vinted better for clothes?
For most clothing, Vinted: garments post as parcels, the German price list charges sellers no commission, and the catalogue rules — condition labels, bundles with one total price — are built for fashion. Use Kleinanzeigen for bulky or high-value pieces sold by pickup, where the buyer saves shipping and your listing meets the caps only beyond 100 ads per 30 days.
Does Kleinanzeigen charge private sellers?
Not at the core: private selling is free until category thresholds are exceeded. The ones that matter: beyond 100 ads in 30 days in consumer goods, services and jobs, each extra ad costs €1.99 including VAT; cars get two free ads per 30 days under €30,000, then €9.99. Commercial sellers pay category-dependent fees under a separate price list we did not read.
Who pays fees on Vinted Germany?
The buyer. The Buyer Protection fee is usually 5% of the item price plus €0.70, VAT included, shown at checkout and varying with item characteristics, order value and order type. Sellers pay nothing on the price list unless they buy a Bump or Showcase. After Vinted's terms update on 5 October 2026, press reports say the charge is renamed the Vinted fee.
Can I list on both platforms at once?
Neither platform's pages we read prohibit listing one item on both, but both ban the automation that crosslisting tools rely on: Kleinanzeigen bans crawlers and automated mechanisms without written consent, Vinted bans external software tools and bulk relisting. Crosslist by hand — adapt the copy, since a pickup listing and a parcel listing sell differently — and end the other listing the moment one sells.
