Selling on Facebook Marketplace in Poland: Local Deals Done Safely
What works on Marketplace in Poland, what Facebook does not protect, and when to move a listing to OLX or Vinted.

- Facebook Marketplace in Poland is a local board — no platform checkout, no protection, you handle payment directly with the buyer.
- Facebook does not publish Poland-specific fees or shipping options — US terms (10% shipped) do not apply to Polish local pickup sales.
- Meet buyers in public, confirm payment in your bank app, and use BLIK or cash — never hand over the item before the money shows up.
- For shipping, move the deal to OLX (with Pakiet Ochronny) or Vinted — both give the buyer protection they expect when paying online.
Facebook Marketplace works differently in Poland than the US checkout version you may have read about. It operates as a local classified board — buyers message you through Messenger, you agree on a price, and you meet for pickup or arrange shipping yourself. There is no built-in checkout, no platform protection, and Facebook does not publish Poland-specific fee or shipping terms.
This page is part of the reselling guide — the pillar for selling second-hand items in Poland. It covers how Marketplace works in Poland, what the published US terms actually say (and why they do not apply here), how to create listings that get messages, safe payment and meeting tips, the main seller scams to watch for, and when to move the deal to OLX or Vinted instead.
How Marketplace works in Poland: a local board
In Poland, Facebook Marketplace is a messaging board for local transactions. When you post an item, it appears in the Marketplace tab for people in your area. Buyers send you a message through Messenger to ask questions or negotiate. You agree on a price, then arrange:
- Local pickup — the most common option. You meet the buyer somewhere, they pay you directly, and you hand over the item.
- Shipping — Facebook does not publish a shipping option for Poland. If a buyer asks for shipping, most sellers suggest moving to OLX or Vinted instead.
This is the same model OLX used before adding its delivery service. The difference is that OLX now offers protected checkout through Płatności OLX, while Marketplace does not.
What the US fee and protection terms actually cover
The Facebook Merchant Policies and Marketplace Help pages describe a checkout system for the US:
- Selling fee: 10% per shipped transaction with a $0.80 minimum. The fee base includes shipping and taxes.
- Seller Protection: described as available "currently only in the US".
- Ship deadline: 7 calendar days to ship with tracking.
These terms apply to US shipped orders. Facebook does not publish equivalent terms for Poland. For local pickup sales in Poland, there is no platform fee — you set your price, receive payment directly from the buyer, and the transaction is entirely between the two of you.
Creating a listing that gets messages
A good Marketplace listing answers the buyer's questions before they ask. Polish buyers on Marketplace expect:
- Clear title — include the brand, model and key feature. Example: "Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, barely used, with case".
- Real photos — 3–5 photos showing the actual item, its condition and any wear. Good photos cut down "is this still available?" messages. For tips, see product photos for resale.
- Honest description — state defects openly. A scratch, missing part or functional issue will come up at the meetup and cost you the sale.
- Realistic price — check comparable listings in your area. Marketplace shows prices others are asking, so price competitively for a quick sale.
- Location radius — Marketplace shows your approximate area. Be ready to specify the exact meetup spot in Messenger.

Most buyers message within the first day if the photos are clear and the price is reasonable. Responding quickly — within an hour — increases your chances of closing the sale.
Meeting buyers and taking payment safely
The lack of platform protection means you bear the risk. Polish sellers use these practices:
- Meet in a public place — a shopping centre, café, or busy square. Avoid your home unless you have someone with you.
- Choose daytime — morning to early evening when the location is busy.
- Check payment before handing over — open your banking app and confirm the transfer arrived. BLIK transfers show instantly. For example, cash is safest for items under 200 zł where a quick count is practical.
- Bring a friend when possible — especially for higher-value items.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels off, cancel the meetup. There will be other buyers.
For example, for higher-value items above 1,000 zł, some sellers ask the buyer to transfer in advance and show the confirmation at the meetup. The seller then hands over the item without any further payment exchange.
Scams that target sellers on Marketplace
The same scam patterns that appear on OLX also target Facebook Marketplace sellers. The difference is that on OLX you can block users, while on Marketplace you report through Facebook's system.
- Fake courier or payment link — the buyer claims they have arranged a courier and sends you a link to "confirm shipment" or "receive payment". The link mimics Facebook or a logistics company and asks for your bank details. Never click payment links from buyers. Real payment happens through your banking app, not a link.
- "I already paid, click to receive" — a buyer sends a fake confirmation screenshot. Check your bank app directly — screenshots can be forged.
- Overpayment scam — the buyer "accidentally" transfers too much and asks you to return the difference. Only the amount that actually arrived in your account is real.
- Empty or wrong item claims after meetup — once the buyer leaves with the item, they may claim it was not as described. There is no platform to dispute this. Document the item's condition with photos before the meetup.
For a full breakdown of these patterns, see OLX scams targeting sellers. The mechanics are identical on Marketplace — the only difference is that OLX now offers Pakiet Ochronny for shipped sales, while Marketplace does not.
Shipping: when to move the deal to OLX or Vinted
If a buyer asks for shipping, you have two practical options:
- Move to OLX — use OLX delivery with Płatności OLX. The buyer pays for Pakiet Ochronny protection (the fee is added to the item price). They have 48 hours to file a claim after delivery, and the payout reaches you after confirmation or 48 hours if no claim is filed. This gives both sides protection.
- Move to Vinted — for parcel-friendly items. Vinted handles the entire checkout and shipping flow, though the buyer fee applies.
Both platforms protect the buyer financially. Facebook Marketplace does not offer this, so sellers who insist on local pickup only lose deals where the buyer wants shipping.

If you sell regularly on Marketplace and want to offer shipping, cross-listing on OLX or Vinted with protected checkout is the safer path. See crosslisting in Poland for how to manage the same item across platforms. For a direct comparison of the two platforms, see OLX vs Facebook Marketplace.

DAC7 reporting note
Since 1 July 2024, platforms in Poland must report sellers who made 30 or more sales or earned more than €2,000 in a calendar year under DAC7. Facebook may report Marketplace sellers if they meet these thresholds — the regulation does not distinguish between platforms. This does not create a new tax but does mean your Marketplace activity may appear in tax reports if you sell at volume. If you are selling in Poland as a foreigner, see selling in Poland as a foreigner for more on reporting requirements.
