Key takeaways
  • A Vinted description has one job: answer the questions a buyer would otherwise message about, and be the record that protects you if a claim is opened.
  • The template has nine fixed lines: item and brand, tag size plus your own measurements, colour, up to three materials, condition, flaws with a photo number, what's included, care or smell notes, and a bundle note.
  • Vinted's Catalogue Rules ban external links, brand spam, and service wording like 'can be ordered' or 'out of stock' — write what the item is, not what you could do with it.
  • A written flaw line tied to a photo number is your protection: undisclosed damage is one of the listed reasons an item counts as significantly not as described (SNAD).
  • No character limit is published — keep the description short and scannable, one line per fact, rather than a paragraph.

A Vinted description template is a fixed set of lines — size, measurements, condition, flaws, what's included — that you fill in once per item instead of writing prose from scratch. Copy the block below, fill each line, and paste it into your listing. This sits inside the Vinted reseller guide; for titles, keywords and cross-platform copy, see listing titles and descriptions — this page only covers the Vinted description itself.

What a Vinted description has to do

A good description answers the questions a buyer would otherwise send you as a message: exact size, what it's made of, what's wrong with it, whether the belt or the box is included. Every question you answer in the listing is one fewer message to reply to before a sale.

It is also the record Vinted and a buyer will look at if something goes wrong. If a buyer opens a claim that the item was significantly not as described, the description is what shows whether a flaw was disclosed or not — a photo alone is easy to miss or dispute.

The copy-and-fill template

Fill every line; delete a line only if it truly doesn't apply (for example, "materials" on a book).

Item & brand: [type of item; brand only if genuine and visible on a label]
Tag size + measurements: [size on the tag] — [your own measurements in cm, laid flat]
Colour: [main colour, plainly]
Materials (up to 3): [fabric/material %, from the care label if present]
Condition: [new with tags / very good / good / fair — pick one]
Flaws: [each flaw, tied to a photo number — e.g. "small mark on left knee, photo 5"]
What's included: [only the item, or specify extras — belt, box, dust bag]
Care/smell notes: [washed or not; smoke-free/pet-free home if true]
Bundle: [sold separately / part of a bundle, one total price]

Fill the size line with the tag size shown in your photo of the tag, plus your own measurements — Vinted's own size-update guide, published after its November 2025 change to how women's sizes display, advises giving exact size-tag details in the description alongside a clear photo of the tag, precisely because the on-screen size label alone isn't enough. The measurements themselves come from how to measure clothes for Vinted.

Three filled examples

These are for example only, to show how the lines read once filled — not real listings.

Straight-leg jeans (for example): Item & brand: straight-leg jeans, no visible brand label. Tag size + measurements: EU 38 tag; waist 76 cm, inseam 78 cm, laid flat. Colour: mid-blue wash. Materials: 98% cotton, 2% elastane. Condition: good. Flaws: small mark on left knee, photo 5. What's included: jeans only, no belt. Care/smell notes: washed, smoke-free home. Bundle: sold separately.

Trainers (for example): Item & brand: low-top trainers, no brand name in the listing. Tag size + measurements: EU 40; insole 25.5 cm. Colour: white with grey sole. Materials: canvas upper, rubber sole. Condition: very good — worn twice indoors. Flaws: none found. What's included: original box included. Care/smell notes: no odour. Bundle: sold separately.

Kitchen item (for example): Item & brand: stand mixer bowl attachment, generic replacement part. Tag size + measurements: fits a 4.5-litre bowl mixer; 24 cm diameter. Colour: stainless steel. Materials: stainless steel. Condition: good — light scratches from normal use. Flaws: one small dent on the rim, photo 3. What's included: bowl only, no mixer. Care/smell notes: dishwasher-safe, cleaned before listing. Bundle: sold separately.

Condition and flaws: the lines that matter in a dispute

A disclosed flaw tied to a photo number is what protects you if a buyer opens a claim.

Vinted's help page on items significantly not as described (SNAD) lists what counts: wrong colour, incorrect size, undisclosed missing parts or damage, different main materials, counterfeit, or functionality not as described. It also lists what doesn't count — the item simply not fitting, or minor differences such as lighting in a photo. A flaw you wrote in the description, tied to a photo number, is exactly the disclosure that keeps a real flaw out of that first list — which only works if the photos actually show what the description says. Full detail on how a claim runs is in SNAD, explained.

Wording Vinted's Catalogue Rules ban

Vinted's Catalogue Rules, checked 13 September 2026, ban several things resellers are sometimes tempted to write: no links to external sites in the listing or your profile, no brand names unrelated to the actual item ("brand spam"), and no service-style wording such as "can be ordered", "out of stock", "check back later" or "can be customised" — a listing has to be one specific item you already have, not a standing offer. If you sell items as a set, label it as a bundle, give it one total price, and don't also list the pieces separately. The full set of Catalogue Rules, including prohibited categories, is in Vinted's listing rules.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a Vinted description be?
Vinted does not publish a character limit, and the pages checked for this article did not state one either — the app will tell you if you hit it. Aim for short and scannable instead: one line per fact (size, materials, condition, flaws, what's included), not a paragraph of prose. A buyer messaging to ask something you already answered is a sign the description ran too long or missed a line.
Can I reuse the same description for similar items on Vinted?
The fixed lines — item type, materials, care notes — can repeat across similar items. The lines that must change every time are tag size, measurements, condition and flaws: those describe the physical item in front of you, not the category. Vinted's Catalogue Rules already ban listing brands or details that don't match the actual item, so a copy-pasted flaws line is a real risk, not just sloppy.
Should I mention flaws in the Vinted description or only in photos?
Both, and the description is the part that protects you. A photo can be missed or misread; a written line — "small mark on left knee, see photo 5" — is what shows a buyer, and Vinted if a claim is opened, that the flaw was disclosed. Undisclosed damage is one of the listed reasons an item counts as significantly not as described.
