How to Liquidate Unsold Inventory
Exits for items that still haven't sold after markdowns: bundles, lots, a new channel and a cash-out rule.

- Call an item dead stock only after one full review period at its floor (the higher of fast sell and break-even) with no offer. Before that, the next move is a markdown.
- Cash-out rule: take the exit when its net cash now × (1 + your own return on cash per period) is at least the chance of a sale at the floor × net payout. The purchase price stays out.
- On Vinted a bundle must be labelled as a bundle with one total price, and its items can't also be listed separately. On OLX a listing must say whether it is a single item, multiple units or a set.
- On Allegro Lokalnie a local listing has a 0 zł sale fee; Kup teraz and auctions cost 7.9% of item value (4.9% in Elektronika), checked 13 September 2026.

How to liquidate unsold inventory comes down to one decision: when the cash an exit pays now is worth more than holding. Stop cutting once an item has sat at its floor for a full review period with no offer. Then try the exits in order: a bundle, a declared set or local lot on OLX or Allegro Lokalnie, another marketplace, and last, donating or writing it off.
This page starts where markdowns end. Diagnosis lives in why your Vinted items aren't selling, and the steps down to the floor in when to lower your price. Rules were read on 13 September 2026; every number in the examples is invented.
- 1At the floor, no offerA full review period has passed: run the cash-out rule
- 2BundleAttach the item to a listing that already gets interest
- 3LotDeclare a set on OLX or sell a local lot on Allegro Lokalnie
- 4New channelMove it once, for one more review period
- 5Donate, recycle or write offNo exit pays more than the time it takes
When an item becomes dead stock: your own aged-inventory rule
No marketplace page in our research says how long an item should take to sell, so the rule comes from your records. The inventory management guide for resellers sets review points per category from your median days to sell; this page starts after the last one.
An item is dead stock when it has spent one full review period at its floor with no offer. The floor is the higher of your fast-sell price and break-even after fees and the shipping you pay.
Example: your coats' median is 20 days listed, so you review every 20 days. A coat reaches its floor on day 60; with no offer by day 80, it goes on the exit list.
- It sat at the floor for the whole period, not just the last few days
- The listing was edited, never deleted and relisted, so its first-listed date is real
- Nobody offered. An offer below the floor is itself an exit: run the cash-out rule on it
The cash-out rule: when to liquidate unsold inventory
This rule puts holding and exiting in the same unit, money, using only your own numbers.
- Chance of a sale: of your items in this category that sat a period at the floor before, the share that sold in the next one. If only a few items stand behind it, round it down.
- Net cash from the exit: after that exit's fees, shipping and packing; in a lot, the item's share.
- Return on cash: profit ÷ purchase cost over your last period of the same length. Nothing to buy with the cash? Use 0.
Leave the purchase price out. You have paid it whichever way you go, and counting it only makes a loss look like a reason to wait.
Example: a jacket's 120 zł floor nets 110 zł. Of your last 10 jackets at their floor, 3 sold the next period. Its share of a four-piece local lot is 45 zł, your return on cash is 20% per period, and you paid 60 zł.
If the rule says hold, give the item one more period at the floor and rerun it with updated counts.
Bundles and multi-buy offers
A bundle needs no new buyer: you attach the stuck item to a listing that already gets favourites or messages, matched by size, style or category. Count the stuck piece at its exit value, not its old price.
Example: a buyer asks about a 60 zł shirt, and your stuck jumper's best exit value is 20 zł. Any combined price from 80 zł beats your other exits for the jumper.
Vinted's Catalogue Rules (UK) set the format: label it as a bundle with one total price, and remember its items "cannot be listed separately", so end their single listings when it goes live. An electronics bundle may hold at most 2 battery devices.
The price lists say the Buyer Protection fee depends partly on "a single item versus a bundle". Updated Vinted Terms take effect on 5 October 2026 in Germany and France and 8 October 2026 in the UK, US and Poland, and press reports the buyer fee will be renamed "Vinted fee", so re-check after those dates. Per-item floors and discounts are in how to price bundles and lots.
Selling in lots locally on OLX and Allegro Lokalnie
A lot trades price per piece for one buyer who takes several, often in person.
| OLX (Terms, 27 Apr 2026) | Allegro Lokalnie | |
|---|---|---|
| Listing must say | Single item, multiple units or a set | Not covered in our research |
| Who can sell | Private and business users, with separate listing limits | Regular accounts only; business accounts can't sell |
| Runs for | 30 days from publication | Auctions: 7 days |
| Sale cost | Free-listing limits vary by category; pay-if-sold rate not published | Local listings 0 zł; Kup teraz and auctions 7.9% (Elektronika 4.9%) |
| Same item twice | Free and limited categories: one listing per item, counting one ended under 14 days ago | Not covered in our research |
- Bulky or cheap per piece? Sell for local pickup. Example: a 90 zł Allegro Lokalnie lot costs 0 zł as a local listing, or 7.11 zł through Kup teraz.
- On OLX, allow for the 14-day window. The Terms don't say whether a set duplicates a single listing you ended for one of its pieces. Our cautious reading, not a stated rule: wait 14 days after ending those listings before publishing the set.
- List every piece with size, flaws and exact count, and photograph each flaw.
Limits by category, delivery and Pakiet Ochronny are in the OLX reselling guide.
Moving the item to a different marketplace
Move an item once, give it one full review period on the new marketplace, then rerun the cash-out rule.
- End the old listing first. Record a new first-listed date and keep the purchase date.
- Don't fake a move on the same platform. Vinted's Terms forbid deleting and re-listing "the same Item multiple times or multiple Items in bulk"; OLX treats re-adding within 14 days as a duplicate in free and limited categories.
- Check the cost. Vinted's UK and Polish price lists show no seller commission; the buyer pays the Buyer Protection fee. Allegro Lokalnie's fees are in the table above.
- Learn the shipping clock. Vinted cancels an order not shipped within 5 business days. OLX refunds the buyer if you don't confirm within 72 hours of the order or hand the parcel over within 3 working days of accepting.
Donate, recycle or write off
Donate or recycle when the best exit value is worth less to you than the time it takes. Example: if an hour is worth 30 zł to you, a 40 zł lot needing two hours of photos, listing and handover goes in the donation bag.
Items a marketplace won't accept go straight here: Vinted's Catalogue Rules ban, for example, worn underwear bottoms, shapewear and used BBQ and grill items.
- End every live listing for the item
- Mark it written off in your records, with the date and reason
- Keep the purchase cost in the row, so the loss shows in that category's figures
- Ask a tax adviser how a write-off or donation is treated for you; this is not tax advice
Preventing dead stock at the buying stage
Your exit list is also a buying report. Once a month, count which categories reached it and what their exits returned against what you paid.
Example: over three months, 8 of your 40 exits were printed T-shirts returning 6 zł against 12 zł paid. Cap what you pay for that kind at 6 zł, or stop buying it.
- If a category keeps reaching the list, compare its sell-through rate with your own earlier periods before buying more.
- Before a bale or mixed lot, price the likely unsold remainder at exit value; are clothing bales worth it? builds that into the maths.
