Condition Abbreviations (NWT, NWOT, EUC…)

Community shorthand decoded, and matched to the conditions a marketplace really lets you pick.

Key takeaways
  • NWT, NWOT, BNWT, BNIB, DS, EUC, VGUC and GUC are community shorthand — no official standard exists.
  • Vinted has no 'New with tags' condition: use 'New' only if unused AND in original packaging, otherwise 'Like new'.
  • Polish buyers may not recognise English codes — write the Polish condition name and 'z metką' or 'bez metki' in words.
  • Never stuff these codes as keywords; Vinted's catalogue rules forbid brand spam.

Condition abbreviations are short codes that resale sellers use to quickly describe an item's condition. You'll see them in listing titles and descriptions on Vinted, eBay, Depop and other platforms. Below: what each common abbreviation means, how they map to Vinted's official condition options, and when to use them on your listings.

This page is part of the crosslisting guide — a pillar for sellers listing on multiple platforms.

The common abbreviations

These codes come from English-language resale communities. There is no formal standard — meanings can vary slightly between sellers.

Abbreviation Meaning
NWT New With Tags — brand new, never used, tags still attached
BNWT Brand New With Tags — same as NWT, stresses that the item is brand new
NWOT New Without Tags — brand new, never used, tags removed
BNIB Brand New In Box — brand new, in original box (common for sneakers)
DS Deadstock — new, never worn (sneaker market term)
EUC Excellent Used Condition — gently used, minimal wear
VGUC Very Good Used Condition — lightly used, some minor flaws
GUC Good Used Condition — regular wear, still functional

These are community conventions. No marketplace help page defines them as official terms.

How they map to Vinted conditions

Vinted has six official condition options: New, Like new, Very good, Good, Satisfactory, and Needs repair (electronics only). The abbreviations above are not Vinted conditions — they are shorthand that sellers use outside Vinted's system.

Key points from the mapping:

  • New with tags does not exist on Vinted. The 'New' condition requires both unused status AND all original packaging and accessories unopened. If your item is unused but the tags are gone or the box is missing, select Like new and mention the tags in your description.
  • NWT/BNWT on Vinted: Only use 'New' if your item is truly unused AND in original sealed packaging. Otherwise, use 'Like new' and write 'z metką' (with tag) in your description.
  • EUC typically maps to Very good. Minor imperfections that don't affect appearance or use fit here.
  • VGUC and GUC map to Very good or Good depending on visible wear — choose based on what a buyer would actually see in the photos.

When to use them and when to spell it out

These abbreviations work well on international platforms where buyers speak English. On Vinted Poland, many buyers may not recognise them — write the condition in Polish instead. For more on writing Polish listings, see how to write listings in Polish.

  • Polish buyers: write "Nowy z metką", "Jak nowy", "Bardzo dobry stan" rather than NWT or EUC
  • Listing descriptions: you can include the abbreviation in parentheses after the Polish term, like "Stan: Bardzo dobry (EUC)". For help with titles, see listing titles and descriptions.

Frequently asked questions

What does NWOT mean?
NWOT stands for New Without Tags. It means the item is brand new and unused, but the original tags or labels have been removed. On Vinted, this maps to Like new — an unused item either opened or without its original packaging.
What is the difference between EUC and GUC?
EUC means Excellent Used Condition — an item in great shape with minimal signs of wear. GUC means Good Used Condition — an item that shows regular wear but still works well. On Vinted, EUC typically maps to Very good, while GUC maps to Good, depending on visible wear.
Does Vinted have a new with tags condition?
No. Vinted does not offer a separate 'New with tags' option. The closest is 'New' — which requires all original packaging and accessories unopened — or 'Like new' for unused items without original packaging. If your item is unused but without tags or original packaging, choose Like new and mention the tags in your description.
